Any thoughts on this potential escalation of the war? My own feeling is that there would be a coup if he outright said anything about it to his inner circle. I do not know Russia's fail safe systems (if any) but the article hinter that there is more than just presidential authority that would be needed to make the decision of the release of nuclear weapons, whether strategic or tactical.

so-called battlefield tactical nukes... not governed by international treaties - lower explosive yields & shorter-range delivery vehicles. Some countries have eliminated their tactical nukes given their explosive force is not much greater than that of increasingly powerful conventional weapons. Of course if Russia was to deploy a tactical nuke in Ukraine how might reaction/response escalate to a strategic nuclear level?
