Canada is about to pass Israel for First-dose vaccination percentage (63%) of total population.

Other than some micro-nations, no country has hit 70% (of population, not eligible adults).

The obvious difference is that Canada only has 8% fully vaccinated. Other countries have hit a ceiling around 65% of people getting one dose. The US only has 51% of the total population with one dose.

I think all efforts in Canada should be focused on second doses, going forward. Especially since that appears to be the benchmark for large gatherings and international travel without quarantine.

I still can't get my second dose because the AZ vaccine has a 12-week second dose window. They're still setting age benchmarks to allow people to get second doses in Ontario. At this point, it should be a free-for-all.

Now that a majority have had first doses it already is focused on second doses.

Now that 72% of BCers over 12 have had a first dose, there isn't that many eligible people left to give first doses.

Oxford is now recommending 12 weeks for maximum effectiveness from AZ. We still don't know about the other vaccines because US companies don't seem to want to do studies on extending the interval. Bad for business, they don't sell as much if they do.

Same for Pfizer….  But the study wasn’t done by Pfizer.  And the data is limited to old folks, and also hasnt been peer reviewed yet.

At Costco for dose #2 of the AZ vaccine.  The official government regulation website gave me a June 29 slot, but Costco called to offer me a shot today.  My first dose was about 10 weeks ago, but they're giving second doses from 8 weeks.  Feeling pretty fortunate today.  Hope I don't get a clot!  :)

The AZ thing is a bit of a mess. They're recommending 12 weeks for it.

Had I known that people would be able to get both Pfizer shots within a month, from May to June, I'd have waited and not got my AZ shot in April.

Oh well, I guess being vaccinated is all that matters.

I like how vaccinations behave differently, depending on the country/province you live in.

I know Dr. Henry said getting second dose of the same vaccine is better and it makes sense logically.  I know the chances of blood clots are 10x higher in the first dose than second.  I know that we now know way more about how to treat the blood clots so that they're not as fatal.

But... after a very long deliberation I have decided to forget it.  I'm not putting myself through that 28 day anxiety window again, it was torture.

I finally returned the text tonight choosing to wait for MRNA.

debbyDownerSays: COVID-19 outbreak at Calgary hospital linked to Delta ("Indian") variant grows to 33, including 10 fully vaccinated

Quote
Ten people confirmed to have the COVID-19 Delta variant linked to two outbreaks at the Foothills Medical Centre were fully vaccinated with two doses before they contracted the illness.

As of Tuesday, 16 patients and six staff on two separate units had tested positive for the variant.

Alberta Health Services spokesperson Kerry Williamson said Friday that one person with the Delta variant is in the ICU.

Got the second Pfizer jab yesterday almost 11 weeks after the first. Big difference from the first one when I had no reaction at all. Sore arm, aching joints, minor headache and feeling clapped out  today because it ruined a nights sleep. Nothing major though, just discomfort.

My arm was pretty sore after the first Pfizer jab, but I figured that was just par for the course. If you had no pain the first time, but quite a bit the second time.....I'm probably going to be dying.

We were out for our morning walk and ran into one of our regulars who had his second about an hour after us. He said he had no after affects. It seems to be a crap shoot.

After-effects are to be expected.  As long as the reaction isn’t an allergic reaction, you’ll be fine after a few days at most.

Oh ya, not worried about it. I was surprised the first shot was such a nothing burger.

My mom had a more difficult second shot too.
