Uh oh spaghetti O's:  https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/vaccination-no-shows-why-are-thousands-of-appointments-going-unfilled-1.5377278
This is not good but it was the first sentence Vaccinate and vaccinate quickly — those are public health orders across the country. that caught my eye. What public health order is CTV talking about? There is no such order in the context of vaccinations. There are merely recommendations just as there are towards travelling and many other things that contribute to the spread of COVID. Real actual orders, around masks and distancing mostly, are pretty few in number despite the endless use of the word orders. This is the sort of sloppy imprecise phrasing that leads to sloppy imprecise messaging that leads to sloppy imprecise interpretation and understanding.  It leaves doors wide open for anyone searching for a loophole to exploit or a reason to apply measures the way they see fit.

In real terms there are probably millions who now regard a mere recommendation as the arrival, not just the coming, of the Red Dawn.  Yes it really is becoming that FUBAR out there.  I think there's justification for lumping a lot of media reportage and punditry in with the mealy mouthed crap that politicians spew.  The public also bears responsibility for helping accelerate and inflate things beyond reason thru social media and millions of tongues wagging in every direction.

The Tower of Babel seems like a paradise of calm reasoned understanding in comparison.

It's our problem too if the number of cold feet is high enough to prevent herd immunity.

True but it makes it even more important to be vaccinated yourself. Don't cater to these people, stick it in the arm of someone who wants it, there is no shortage of them at this point.

BC Health Minister is calling bullsh!t on the feds and their vaccine figures.  Saying, essentially, that they’re exaggerating about the supply and that there is virtually no over-stock in BC.

Looks like about 19% of the province has received a dose...  Not sure what the #s in BC are for FULL immunization, but it seems like it’s going fairly quickly now.

Liberal Health Minister Hajdu tweet cycled numbers for provinces/territories... just numbers - did not editorialize! So, of course, some Premiers and related party acolytes lost their shyte. Here's the B.C. related tweet (April 5) along with a snapshot from the B.C. Covid-19 dashboard (latest April 7 update):

there's a want for many to showcase Canada's "supposed" position in vaccinating the populace... a comparative position to other countries. The broad "Our World Data" comparison that includes all countries has many pertinent details missing; a comparison to other OECD countries is a more representative and valued data sample. In any case, CPC leader O'Foole took it to a whole new level; one that has subsequently rippled on through to and been carried forward by CPC supporters:

O'Foole's preferred data source includes a dozen or so countries with small populations relative to Canada. More pointedly, O'Foole doesn't highlight the number of countries within his source data sample that are vaccinating using Chinese and/or Russian vaccines. Oh wait, is he/CPC advocating for Canada to source from... to have sourced vaccines from Russia... from China? Oh my!  ;D

In a round about way he as much as did it again on the daily briefing.

BC has now administered 995,000 doses.

According to Dix they got 30% of the total doses received in the few days before April 5. Basically half a million doses in one week. So Hajdu is saying we gave you 1.2 million doses and Dix is saying, ya but you have us half a million of them last week.

and the provincial dashboard still reflects the April 7 update... the number I showed in the posted image above => 946,096. So... a lag in presentation (assuming your number is correct). More pointedly I drew direct reference to what has caused the "stir" between provincial representatives so used to a one-way blame-game (the Minister Hajdu tweets; one where they perpetually blame the federal government for their own inadequacies in actually getting vaccines-in-arms!).

The ministers tweet wasn't confrontational. It will be a regular, weekly piece of information.

It's not an exaggeration, it's simply that many of the doses arrived in the last few weeks.

Ottawa has been complementary of provincial efforts. BC has been generally unconfrontational back, which is encouraging.

1,403,510 doses distributed as of today in BC
985,001 doses given as of today
946,096 doses given as of yesterday

That's 38,905 doses per day and 418,509 doses in storage. Is it just me or am I missing something? That seems awfully slow given the near state of national emergency we're in.

The CDC assumes 1.5 - 2 people per station in a mass vaccination. It assumes 30 jabs per station per hour which meshes with a breakdown of what I know of our local region. We're scheduled to start mass vaccinating on April 12 and I know of people scheduled as late as the 22nd. That'll be 360 people per day....two health workers in other words.

https://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/pdf/A_Wortley_H1N1_sample_clinic.pdf

Maybe I just watch to many movies but I was kind of expecting a couple armed forces planes landing at the local airport with 30 soldiers setting up mass vaccination tents with 20 stations within an hour and people lined up waiting outside ready to go...they'd be done by the end of the day and off too Haida Gwaii or somewhere by sunset. Instead it sounds like they're only sending a couple of nurses to administer 360 doses a day...they might as well get in a little surfing and trail hiking while they're here. There's no need to rush apparently.  If this is going to take months apparently it's not because of distribution issues.

Actually I think there was some politicking going on. Feds getting some heat about vaccines so they tweet this out and the story becomes BC hasn't used 400,000 doses. It would be better if ministers were giving context to their news releases, not tweeting a few numbers. It just makes for friction between governments for no good reason.

There must be thousands of people in BC capable of administering jabs. I can think of at least 20 people around here that are qualified.  I've had years of first aid training, I'm sure I could be shown how to do it in about 10 minutes.

WTF am I missing here? Why did we need the Army again? I suggested military escorts for Purolator couriers but just for show.

From our experience that's pretty optimistic. By the time they check your paperwork, explain what vaccine you are getting, advise you of possible side effects when you will be due for your second shot and fill out your card it was at least 5 minutes. Other people may be organizing but it is the person giving the shot who is ultimately responsible for everything being in order.

BC's own COVID dashboard says BC hasn't used 400000 + doses.  They must have a good reason for that but I'll be damned if I can figure out what it is.
