Would it be so crappy if it was the only vaccine out there? I would take my chances with the vaccine before Covid any day.

Why not produce the pfizer or moderna vaccines in the Astrazeneca facilities?  They're more effective against COVID anyways.  If they're not worried about profit it shouldn't be any issue.

How long does it take to build production facilities in a state of emergency anyways?  More than a year?  Why isn't the international community pumping these vaccines out like candy?  Money shouldn't be the issue if lockdowns are sucking untold GDP from countries.  All they needed is one effective vaccine and then it's go-time.  The international community should have been working on facilities since March/April last year but have instead been bickering about hoarding vaccines.

An entire country can be mobilized and cooperating with other countries during an emergency like in WWII, but here we are twiddling our thumbs, with Dr. Tam still shoveling us her her load that nobody trusts, and Trudeau not knowing how to do anything but give away free money we don't have, and the intellectually slow opposition whining about lockdowns, and the NDP still whining about pharmacare which we obviously can't afford and nobody gives 2 effs about right now.

The are mRNA vaccines and they aren't allowing anyone to manufacture them under license. You buy them from Pfizer or Moderna or go without. AstraZeneca is allowing theirs to be made under license that's why it is being made in India by its Serum Institute and South Korea's SK Bioscience as well as in Europe.

Here's an idea:  take that crappy AstraZeneca vaccine and throw it in the trash.

Both of my parents have had AstraZeneca. It was a giant relief.

Moderna vaccine day for me will be somewhere between the 19th and 21st.

Crappy AstraZeneca vaccine is what happens when you have months of testing instead of years, and the masses become the testing lab.

AstraZeneca stops death 100% of the time after the second shot, and nearly that often after the 1st. 1 shot appears to reduce the chance of catching COVID by 76% according to NACI.

They don't even use the same technology or manufacturing process. They can't be made in the same facility.

Why are we making J&J when AstraZeneca is so much more effective and just as easy to make?

Last year the government and the medical community kept overstating the risk of covid to younger people,  to try and maintain the "we're all in this together" narrative.   The stats showed that young people were about as likely to die from raccoon attacks as from covid, but you wouldn't have known it from what our government and medical officials were saying. Now they're like "lol okay but this time we really mean it."  Assuming the doctors who cried wolf are telling the truth, and young people are in danger FOR REALZ this time, then maybe young people should be first in line for the vaccine, not last in line.

Young people are more likely to be doing jobs that require interaction with lots of people.  High-risk jobs are mostly staffed by young people. Whether it's keeping the grocery store running, doing deliveries, working in restaurants and stores, or whatever else, it's young people who are doing that work.  Between a 60 year old who works in his own office or a 20 year old who works at the grocery store, it's obvious who's more likely to come into contact with covid. And if the new strains are actually dangerous to young people, then it's obvious who should get the vaccine first.

Young people are also more likely to be living in more precarious situations, for financial reasons.  Between a 60 year old who lives in a standalone home with a spouse or a 20 year old who lives in an apartment with 3 other 20 year olds who are also all working in public-facing jobs, it's obvious who's more likely to come into contact with covid. If the new strains are actually dangerous to young people, then it's obvious who should get the vaccine first.

If there's evidence that the new strains of covid are actually dangerous to young people, then young people should be higher priority for vaccines.

Of course we know that death is the only possible thing we should ever worry about:

I'd rather be dead than lose any large part of my brain function.

So if you want a vaccination just show up at the end of the day because they don't like to waste doses.

I didn't see anything about wasting doses, they're wasting scheduling slots.  So time, basically.

If they defrost the doses and can't use them, they have to throw them away.

I think there should be stiff penalties for no-showing to a vaccine appointment.

Pfizer doses can be stored for 5 days in the refrigerator, and Moderna doses much longer.

Open doses can usually be stored overnight, but not over weekends.

America does?

Seriously...  our neighbour has been just as bad as Brazil, if not worse.  It's surprising that we're not in worse shape than we are, being so closely tied to them.

Still, if a person doesn’t reschedule more than 24hrs  before their appointment there should be a list of willing front line workers and their dose should go to one of them. If someone has cold feet or can’t make up their mind, that’s their problem.

It's our problem too if the number of cold feet is high enough to prevent herd immunity.
