Well that's lovely.

I probably over simplified it but those numbers got my attention.

They're not being honest about the variants, that's why there is such a high incidence of hospitalization.  https://bc.ctvnews.ca/researchers-believe-coronavirus-variants-are-now-dominant-in-b-c-official-figures-outdated-1.5373168

There are a few older links in that article above and I posted a thread a few days ago from a US epidemiologist.  P1 is rampant in BC, that's pretty much why they finally shut down Whistler.

To put it even more starkly, the variants are more than 4 times worse.

Oh well and speaking of simple, at least we've moved past the point where we need paper, printing presses, ink, pallets, trucks, security guards and what have you to get compensation into people's hands. E-transferring a string of numbers is so much easier. Its almost like magic.

We're about the same, adjusted for size.  1000/day yesterday and today.

Apparently this wave with the variants are seeing more younger people in ICU's.  Not sure what the stats say on that:

Last year the government and the medical community kept overstating the risk of covid to younger people,  to try and maintain the "we're all in this together" narrative.   The stats showed that young people were about as likely to die from raccoon attacks as from covid, but you wouldn't have known it from what our government and medical officials were saying. Now they're like "lol okay but this time we really mean it."  Assuming the doctors who cried wolf are telling the truth, and young people are in danger FOR REALZ this time, then maybe young people should be first in line for the vaccine, not last in line.

Young people are more likely to be doing jobs that require interaction with lots of people.  High-risk jobs are mostly staffed by young people. Whether it's keeping the grocery store running, doing deliveries, working in restaurants and stores, or whatever else, it's young people who are doing that work.  Between a 60 year old who works in his own office or a 20 year old who works at the grocery store, it's obvious who's more likely to come into contact with covid. And if the new strains are actually dangerous to young people, then it's obvious who should get the vaccine first.

Young people are also more likely to be living in more precarious situations, for financial reasons.  Between a 60 year old who lives in a standalone home with a spouse or a 20 year old who lives in an apartment with 3 other 20 year olds who are also all working in public-facing jobs, it's obvious who's more likely to come into contact with covid. If the new strains are actually dangerous to young people, then it's obvious who should get the vaccine first.

If there's evidence that the new strains of covid are actually dangerous to young people, then young people should be higher priority for vaccines.

Last year it was just another flu killing old farts. Mixed messaging...fake news...alternative whatever...Meanwhile the evidence still says Zero Target lockdowns will work way way better at getting thru this pandemic faster and safer.

If there's solid empirical evidence that says putting lives first will destroy our economy forever I'd like to see it.

Please note I said destroy forever because forever and ever and ever is what we're actually and precisely afraid of right?

Well like I said, let's see the statistics.  Are these variants really more dangerous for young people, or are young people just the ones not vaccinated yet and are out partying and working as cashiers and in food delivery etc.  Doctors seeing more young people in ICU's is circumstantial evidence.  Maybe they're just trying to scare young people so they stop partying.

I also read there's like 4000 variant strains out there, which is lovely.

Here's an idea:  take that crappy AstraZeneca vaccine and throw it in the trash, then get Pzifer to start making its vaccines in AstraZeneca production facilities and then compensate AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

This is no time for profit-making for vaccine companies, this is time to save lives.  This is a global emergency.  COVID vaccine IP shouldn't belong to these companies, it should belong to the world.  Take it from them, compensate them from a global fund, then distribute it to any company in any country that can make them.

{Mar 23} it was BuffaloGal Rempel who tabled the motion:

a timeline? The motion calls for a, "clear data-driven plan to allow COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted"... again, and most obvious to anyone other than a CPC supporter,  setting and lifting lockdown restrictions falls within provincial governance!

{motion defeated Mar 25}

=> March 23 - CPC/Rempel motion tabled; March 25 - motion defeated in HOC... but that hasn't stopped O'Foole, #PigeonPierre & other CPC MPs from continuing the call for the federal government to intervene in provincial jurisdiction concerning Covid-19 restrictions/lockdowns!

=> Mar 30: Poilievre states, "rest of the world is safely opening"... can anyone help to clarify/support Poilievre's statement? Anyone, anyone, anyone...

It is the second most used vaccine in the world after Pfizer. 71 countries are using it. It is also being provided at cost, a tenth the price of the other vaccines. Since the Brits started using it their seven daily moving average of new cases has gone from 67,000 to 5400.

In the UK 30 out of 18,000,000 people died.  That's 1 in 600,000.  The chances of dying from a car accident (in Canada, in a given year) is 1 in ~2800.  The chances of dying from COVID are 1 in 1000 (roughly depending on age).

I would take the vaccine, but I'm not 55 unfortunately.
