New Brunswick has had a major spike in cases in one region in the northwestern portion of the province. The vast majority of them are the UK variant. I understand that people are tired of the precautions but it's more important than ever to follow the public health guidelines. These variants are no joke.

These variants are no joke.

Increased mortality in community-tested cases of SARS-CoV-2 lineage B.1.1.7 --- "Our analysis suggests that B.1.1.7 is not only more transmissible than preexisting SARS-CoV-2 variants, but may also cause more severe illness."

In a couple more months, it'll still be just a couple of months away.  In September it'll still be a couple more months. There will always be a new variant, or a new outbreak, or more worries with the effectiveness of the vaccines or some other reason. The goalposts are always receding into the distance.

Premier Horgan was out there on Monday saying "we're so close now" and "don't you young people screw this up for the rest of us."  But nobody actually believes we're close now, and young people are tired of being told to put their lives on hold for the benefit of others, until the magical tomorrow that never arrives.  Everything depends on buy-in, and buy-in was always a finite resource, and now it's depleted.

March 30, 2021: cause 'Big White - Kelowna' yutes just wanna have fun!

Quote
... dozens of partiers going wild at Charley Victoria's on Monday night, hours after the B.C. government announced a slew of new restrictions that are expected to have a major impact on the service industry.

Big White president Michael J. Ballingall told CTV News that hotel staff promptly reported the party to the RCMP after they noticed what was happening.

"We were absolutely disgusted, appalled, embarrassed," he said in a phone interview Tuesday.

"I mean this is incredibly disappointing to all the restaurants on the mountain that have really worked so hard, as the mountain has, to keep everyone safe."

You might get yours by summer, and I might get mine by fall.   The young people who are causing the rapid spread of the virus right now might get theirs by 2022, just in time to find out that the vaccines aren't effective enough against new variants to allow for relaxing restrictions, and the cycle will continue.

the expectation of 'many medical experts' is that iterative boosters will be required... for "some time" - regular yearly (or less time) boosters.

ICU admissions at an all time high in Ontario.

The rise in ICU admissions is being driven largely by the continued spread of variants of concern in the province. Ontario's COVID-19 science advisory table, a group of experts that advises the government on its pandemic response, projects that variants currently account for about 69 per cent of all new infections.

In a report published this week, the table said that variants of concern are associated with a 63 per cent increase in risk of hospitalization, a 103 per cent increase in the risk of needing intensive care and a 56 per cent rise in the risk of death from COVID-19.

Emergency physicians and infectious disease experts have repeatedly said that the spread of variants, particularly the B117 variant first found in the United Kingdom, is dangerously outpacing the province's immunization campaign.

DoFo keeps blaming the federal government procurement for his (government's) failure to vaccinate to the level of vaccines delivered... failure to distribute vaccines throughout the province!

as of yesterday, Ontario had 718,000 vaccines sitting in freezers... with more on the way - #CheckTheFreezerDoug

Reality is most western nations are around our level of % of population vaccinated, some less.  To me it seems like vaccine companies may be more or less distributing vaccines based on population size of the country.  So France may get shipped more total vaccines than Canada because it has more people, but they'll both be around 12% of their population with at least 1 shot given.  That seems like a fair way to distribute it and avoid conflicts.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-vaccinations-tracker.html

The question is:  should/will older people in developing countries get the vaccine before younger people in the developing world?

I want to know who Netanyahu paid off to get all those vaccine to Israel.  59%% of Israelis already vaccinated.  Only 9 million population but still.  Israel pulling its strings with US allies?  https://www.vox.com/2021/1/14/22215896/israel-vaccine-coronavirus-pfizer-netanyahu

Auditor General's report: Dr Tam is a big dumb loser who sucks at her job.

 -k

They should have just replaced her or she should have stepped down because many people don't trust what she says (myself included), even if their opinions on Tam are right or wrong, people need to have trust in the top doctor or else some won't listen and that's not good for COVID spread.  Take one for the team Tam.

Got the first shot yesterday. Shoulder a little tender but that's all.

Can we all come to your house and lick your shoulder for immunity?

Jab-day is April 13th @ 2:55 PM.

Part of a mass vaccination program for our town. Makes it sound like it'll be against our will.

That said I think I'll bring a bushel of rotting vegetables to throw at the anti-vaxxers as they drag them kicking and screaming into the inoculation chambers.  Some of us are going out tonight to spray-paint big A-V's on their doors. We know who they are and we know what they've done.

Imagine if there were a virus where if everybody didn't get vaccinated then everybody dies.  Obviously there would still be people who would resist.  It would be mayhem, but there would be no choice but to do it against people's will.

Kinda like taxation.

Of course anti-taxxers who could get away with it would still be having their cake and eating it too.

It’s too bad we can’t spread immunity like we spread the virus.

Apparently this wave with the variants are seeing more younger people in ICU's.  Not sure what the stats say on that:

According to Global there were 192 active variant cases in BC yesterday with 35 in hospital. That would be a 18% hospitalization rate. Hospitalization rate for the total number of active cases is less than 4%. The variants are looking a bit scary. The rules have changed.
