You have to find the right balance. Profiteering is subjective. If you take away the profit incentive, you take away the biggest incentive to develop and produce new medicines and treatments. That's a great way to cause a significant decline in new and better drugs.

Left critiques of Big Pharma:
1) Big Pharma spends more on marketing/advertising than r&d
2) New drug research is massively subsidized by taxpayers
3) Drug companies' profit motive results in massive markups making lifesaving medicines often unaffordable
4) Big Pharma spends millions to buy off politicians to keep tax breaks and research funds flowing
Right critiques of Big Pharma
1) They made a medicine I don't want to take
