Extremely helpful? You should send your peer-reviewed research to the Mayo Clinic. You could teach them something. I bet they haven't seen your youtubes and memes.

But it IS effective.  The video goes over the data.  Your citation refers to no data, just generalized statements.  Why are you such a shill for big pharma?

I believe big pharma should be completely nationalized. How about you? Do you think there should at least be significant new regulations to prevent profiteering...since that's your sudden, new concern? The GOP has worked hard at deregulating their industry. Did they go too far?

That’s definitely not a good idea.  Just make sure health officials aren’t bribed, and are willing to accept cheaper treatments.

But as a recent convert in the war against Big Pharma, surely you want stronger regulations to ensure the profiteering we've seen with the vaccines can no longer happen. Your party has fought against such regulations for a long time, so you must now feel they went too far?

You have to find the right balance.  Profiteering is subjective.  If you take away the profit incentive, you take away the biggest incentive to develop and produce new medicines and treatments.  That's a great way to cause a significant decline in new and better drugs.

"Don't be a shill for big pharma!" says the needlecuck who opposes any actual structural reforms to the industry.

Left critiques of Big Pharma:
1) Big Pharma spends more on marketing/advertising than r&d
2) New drug research is massively subsidized by taxpayers
3) Drug companies' profit motive results in massive markups making lifesaving medicines often unaffordable
4) Big Pharma spends millions to buy off politicians to keep tax breaks and research funds flowing

Right critiques of Big Pharma
1) They made a medicine I don't want to take

Vitamin D is extremely helpful in preventing covid hospitalization.  Health officials didn’t push that during the pandemic because there’s no money to be made with inexpensive treatments.

Turns out the study is junk and paid for by a supplements manufacturer.

The nut of it: almost 90% of the data that led to the conclusion that Vitamin D prevents hospitalization comes from a single, non-randomized observational "study".

Isn't it common knowledge that Vitamin D helps with one's immune system?

Zinc too.

Sure but that was not the specific claim that was made which was that "Vitamin D is extremely helpful in preventing covid hospitalization."

It might be, but we don't have any real evidence of that yet.

So it would obviously only be helpful to people who are vitamin D deficient. But that would always be the case, whether there is a pandemic or not.

Most people are vitamin D deficient.  Particularly during the winter, when covid, flu, pneumonia, etc are most prevalent.  Regardless, referencing some rando on Twitter isn’t science.  And trying to connect the money motive for a vitamin D study is laughable.  Vitamin D isn’t restricted by any patent.  Hundreds of companies produce it.  There isn’t a lot of money to be made by one vitamin.  Vaccines on the other hand. 🤔

I agree with your idea that profits are incompatible with public health. Glad to see you guys finally coming around. Let's nationalize all vaccine patents as a first step to a truly public health system.

Sounds like a bunch of horseshit to me.

Quote
-Just over two-thirds of Canadians (68%) had blood concentrations of vitamin D over 50 nmol/L—a level that is sufficient for healthy bones for most people. About 32% of Canadians were below the cut-off.
-Children aged 3 to 5 had the highest rates above the cut-off (89%), while the 20- to 39-year-olds had the lowest (59%).
-About 40% of Canadians were below the cut-off in winter, compared with 25% in the summer.
