Not sure anyone is saying we should emulate Australia’s vaccination failure….

But many did think that their style of lockdown to achieve COVID Zero was something worth emulating.

Imagine being under the constant fear of lockdown if cases rise fractionally. All the while the population isn't doing anything to move past the pandemic.

Yes, more stringent lockdowns AND our current rate of widespread vaccinations would’ve prevented more deaths.  I guess if you think the level of deaths was OK, then it was a success.  I think we could’ve done more.

In Ontario, I think the vaccination approach didn't evolve with variants. We saw that young people were getting sick and dying. Vaccines should have targeted hot spots once available. Not vaccinating older people first.

I don't think lockdowns should have prevented the third wave, only vaccination has done that.

Regardless, Lockdowns should be used to prevent Hospital System Collapse, not to ensure COVID-19 Zero.

per UofC Economist, Trevor Tombe: in regards 2-dose fully vaccinated, in Canada, the following graph shows a percentage fully vaccinated per day rise of 1.05%/day while the U.S. rises by 0.14%/day. At these current rise projections, Canada matches the U.S. share in 23 days (July 18)

This is why we're seeing little movement on major re-opening measures. The Provinces are waiting for JT to open that border.

There's absolutely no reason not to open it in July.

wide open? No requirement for proof of full-vaccination? No need for immunity certificates (aka vaccine passports)? No testing requirements at the border? By the by, the waldo reads there are at least a dozen U.S. states that have either already banned vaccine passports or are in the process of doing so... see Republican Governors/state legislatures!

Vaccine passports, for sure. But if you're fully vaccinated, why the need for a test? Especially one that takes a few days for a result.

By Mid-July, the only reason you're not fully vaccinated is because you're under 12 or you don't want to be.

Americans who don't want Vaccine passports probably aren't eager to participate in International Travel either.

Celebrity Cruises just did their first fully vaccinated trip out  of Florida but a federal judge has ruled they can't prohibit non vaccinated people from boarding at Florida ports.
Florida being Florida again.

In response a company rep said non vaccinated people will have to pay for their own tests before and after the cruise, wear masks in all public spaces and will be seated separately for dining. I don't know how they will enforce the mask part, how will you know whether the person standing next to you has been vaccinated.

Do what All Inclusive Resorts do. Make them wear non vaccinated bracelets.

We need to get to a point where you don't care that there are non-vaccinated people. They're the ones risking getting sick, not the vaccinated.

Except when they spread variants that aren’t covered by the vaccine….  Why do you still not know this?

What variants aren't covered by the vaccine to a point that it largely removes hospitalization for most people?

Look, I think everyone should get vaccinated. But we can't just wait for them to return to some semblance of normal.

Unvaccinated will live in a country where they can't do international travel without quarantining, if at all. That's incentive enough for most.

Well, BC is going into phase 3.  It'll be weird seeing people's faces again.  I'm not sure I'm ready for this.  ;D

No more mask mandate in BC.  Seems strange.

Every business I've been to in the last two days (restaurants, hair dresser, physio, car dealerships) have maintained mask wearing.  Haven't been grocery shopping yet, but I expect that's where I'll see a lot fewer masks being worn.  The butcher we go to has a sign advising that masks will continue to be required because they have staff that are immunocompromised.  I'm ok wearing a mask if businesses still require it.  Might even keep using them in crowded places and on transit, it's nice not having a couple of colds a year.
