I agree with this. Not necessarily about the "sell them crap" part, but definitely that kids are being pressured to adopt a sexual identity at too young an age.
When I was an adolescent I knew virtually nothing about sex. There was zero sex or nudity on television, and the only 'video' available were 8mm films which you had to order from the US (and which Canada customs was ever on the lookout for). Mens magazines had only just started to show pubic hair (models actually HAD pubic hair!).
Today, eleven year olds are watching x-rated bondage
****, deep throating and facials on the internet, if not on television.
When I was an adolescent, adolescent girls dressed like... girls. They wore no makeup. They had simple hairstyles and loose clothing. They were definably different from women. That difference has evaporated in the fashions, and eleven year olds are now dating and making out. Thirteen year olds dress like seventeen year olds and wear thongs. And every advertisement aimed at girls is filled with sexuality.
Is it any wonder kids are feeling pressured way before they're mentally equipped to handle such things?
