FIFA World Cup 2022
« on: November 22, 2022, 04:24:03 pm »
So, the World Cup has been a complete gong show.  Other than bribes with money, Iím not sure why Qatar was awarded the World Cup at all.

Stadiums built with slave labour, with thousands dying in the process.
Banning alcohol at the last minute, after agreeing to sell alcohol in order to host in the first place.
Banning teams and players from wearing arm bands, etc.

And playing it at the end of November just doesnít feel right, with hockey and football going on.  Itís the holiday season not soccer season.  What a disaster.

All valid criticisms but almost 3 million tickets have been sold so definitely not a disaster.

True.  But I bet most of those tickets were sold before the buyers knew of the terrible accommodations and alcohol ban.

Germanyís in a big battle with FIFA and Qatar over an arm band.  After their pathetic performance against Japan, they need to leave the woke crap behind and concentrate on winning games.

I thought wokism was supposedly destroying western society, but it sounds like it's all just pronouns and armbands. Who cares?

I have a friend who is a POC.  They worked in Qatar for a bit.  They said they were quite racist towards him there, even when entering commercial establishments he had to have white and arab coworkers convince the establishment to allow him to enter.   It's a much more racist county than Canada, which is among the least racist nations on the planet.

Culturally most developing countries remind me how the Canada was 60 years ago.  Things like racism, homophobia , religious adherence, attitudes towards women's rights etc.  But the young people are more progressive than their parents, just like how it works here. We see this in Iran today.

Being Black in the Middle East is the worst place to be in the world.  A close second is China.

Well, Canadaís been eliminated from the World Cup.  Pretty embarrassing considering how well they played to qualify and the expectations.

Belgium and Croatia are ranked #2 and #12 in the world, Morocco is #22. Canada got a ridiculously tough draw so not really.
