US kicks out ICC investigating Afghanistan
« on: April 06, 2019, 05:24:05 pm »

"U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said last month that Washington would revoke or deny visas to ICC staff seeking to investigate alleged war crimes and other abuses committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan or elsewhere and may do the same with those who seek action against Israel."

Predictable that the US won't cooperate with investigations of US War crimes.
How are they held accountable for invasions and regime changes paid for by US citizens, to benefit US financial elites?

Nothing new here except for the visa part. The US has never recognized the court’s jurisdiction over itself but doesn’t mind using it to prosecute others.

I thought the ICC was a European thing that the US ignored. Can you give examples of the US advocating that people be charged by the ICC?

It's not a European thing even though it sits in the Hague. Here's a hint, the "I" stands for International. The US ignores it for various reasons most importantly because it doesn't allow the death penalty which the States like to keep available.

I think the US ignores it mainly so it can't ever be charged with war crimes or crimes against humanity, both of which it engages in frequently in the process of changing regimes in other countries to cooperate with corporate wishes.
And of course also to support Israel's crimes against Palestinians.

All valid points as well, and one need look no further than Gitmo for examples.

The Arab states are to blame just as much as Israel for the conditions that the Palestinian people are living under. Neighboring countries turning back Palestinian refugees, sometimes at gunpoint, is a fact that the Israeli Apartheid movement would rather you not have knowledge of.

Besides, any criticism of Israel for their treatment of Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories serves a purpose.  It draws attention away from Canada and the US treatment of it's Indigenous peoples throughout the last 200+ years.  It's a deflection technique.
