From your own article.

The Washington Post gets into per capita emissions, and indeed despite the decline, U.S. per capita emissions are still among the highest in the world. However, the Washington Post story claimed: "The United States may have had the largest decrease in carbon emissions, but it is still the largest per capita emitter."

Canada is a strong #2 in emissions per capita, are we not?  Maybe we should just acknowledge a strong correlation between carbon emissions and our prosperous lifestyle.

Yes we're up there but we also live in a country that needs a lot of heat during a lot of the year.

However, China has another 10 years before they’re supposed to reduce theirs.  What a sweet deal for such an urgent issue!
Regardless, your buddy China still has 10 years left of increase!  Great deal huh!?

you're still flogging this crap? It's been some number of years since I've bothered with that 'other board'... but even I recall busting this nonsense when last there!

let the waldo remove your aversion to China by asking you about a hypothetical country named say... Gyna! Now, whether sufficient or not, if Gyna offered a commitment to have its peak emissions occur in say... 2030, for Gyna to meet that peak-year commitment, how many years lead time (before 2030 arrives) would Gyna require in terms of radically shifting its economy/energy generation away from high emissions coal-centric sources to alternative lower/cleaner energy sources?

Yes we're up there but we also live in a country that needs a lot of heat during a lot of the year.

blah blah blah the overwhelming majority of the Canadian population lives within 100km of the US border so the excuse about frozen north temperatures really doesn't cut a lot of ice (no pun intended).  What portion of the Canadian population lives in Ontario's "Golden Triangle" and BC's Lower Mainland and Quebec's greater Montreal area?  The overwhelming majority of it. I'm not going to do the math right now, but I'm going to guess that the large majority of Canada's population lives within those 3 areas, right? Edmonton is the only major Canadian city that isn't within a short drive of the US border, correct?

So let's not pretend like cold weather is a big factor here. Cold weather isn't a big issue for the Lower Mainland or the Golden Triangle or Montreal and environs. That's just an excuse. The truth is, we like big houses, we like being able to go for a drive to the country, we like doing lots of other things that use a lot more energy than is politically correct to.

And before condemning people who live the exact same lifestyle as we do, we need to take a good hard look in the mirror.

And the majority of population in Canada as you point out live in colder temperatures than do the majority of Americans. And as you should also know we are more spread out so we have to spend more time in our cars. I'm not sure as to your comment that we like to live in bigger houses. I'm sure a vast majority of our population live in apartment buildings. I would agree that we could do better, but we don't need the US as any kind of guide as to how to.

Excuses.  "b-b-b-but muh cold weather, b-b-but muh commute..."

I'm the greenest person on this forum. Before I worked from home, I walked to work every day. I can do everything I need to within a short walk from home. I can light and heat my tiny apartment with less energy than it takes the rest of you dickheads to open your garage doors. I have zero offspring who are going to **** up the environment in the future.  If you fuckheads can't even be bothered to take the slightest steps to reduce your carbon footprint, what business do you have acting like Americans are the problem?

It's the "fuckheads" who support trump who for instance, is in favor of leaving the Paris Accord to hasten to open coal pits. And I have taken my steps to reduce my footprint. I walk to the grocery store whenever I go and I have been wearing a sweater in order to turn the heat down at least a few degrees for some time now.

Shut up, dickhead. You fly helicopters for a living. You burn 20 gallons of fossil fuel every hour of every work day, which means that you put at least 1.5 tons of CO2 into the air every day.  Think about that before you lecture anybody else about climate change.

He flies helicopters for a living, which means he burns 10 to 20 gallons of fossil fuel every hour of his work day, which means he puts 200 to 400 pounds of C02 into the atmosphere every hour of his work day.

To put it in perspective: if he works 40 hours this week, he puts the equivalent of two to four Chevy Impalas worth of CO2 into the atmosphere.  Not the emissions from Chevy Impalas. The actual cars. Picture four Chevy Impalas parked next to each other, and that's Omni's carbon footprint for one week at work.

But at least he walks to the grocery store.

Yes we're up there but we also live in a country that needs a lot of heat during a lot of the year.

Canada's high GHG levels largely come from industry and transportation, not residential.

http://prairieclimatecentre.ca/2018/03/where-do-canadas-greenhouse-gas-emissions-come-from/

The oil and gas industry is Canada’s leading GHG emitter. Emissions from the transportation sector are a close second.

I wonder if the folks who failed to pass grade school science or just don't care are ignoring the idea of global warming as yet another line of tornadoes heads across the southern US. Over a hundred of them so far have been seen from radar/satellite.
