Just because there are bigots around doesn't mean we shouldn't acknowledge bad ideas like many Muslims who abuse women and follow awful religious doctrine when they happen.

Acknowledge and denounce the bigots...   acknowledge and denounce the problem with the Muslim misogynist religion.

Obviously we can't control what happens around the world, but here in Canada we have laws and if you break them you have to pay the penalty whether you are Muslim, Christian, Catholic, white, black, yellow, brown. I just don't like the fact that there seems to be a rather biased focus on non white, non western religion crime occurrences.

There isn't.  Canada is and has been moving ahead on women's rights for many years.  I see articles, notifications, newscasts many times a day regarding women's shelters, women's groups, and reports of what's being done for women in general.

The problem is, as soon as you mention the aspect of honour killings in relation to women's rights, everyone clams up and immediately starts pointing in other directions to distract from the conversation.  No one wants to have that conversation.  And I get it - we are not exactly prepared to deal with this new aspect as it moves into all countries of the world.  Aqsa Parvez asked for help.  But we are inexperienced with this level of religious fanaticism, so we sent her back home to "obey" her father, like a good 16 year old girl, never imagining that her family was in far more fear of losing their family honour than they were of the legal consequences for strangling her in her bedroom.   Do you imagine the problem is going to get better as more and more religious fanatics settle in Canada?  The UK is already dealing with the highest rate of acid attacks per capita in the world.

Quote
The UK has one of the highest rates of acid attacks per capita in the world, according to Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI).

ASTI's figures, quoting the police, reveal the number of recorded attacks has increased nearly three-fold from 228 recorded crimes in 2012 to 601 attacks in 2016. Last year was widely regarded as the worst ever with more than 400 incidents reported in the six months to April 2017 alone.

There have been some acid attacks in Canada.  I expect we'll start seeing more.

Could you tell me of any instance where people clam up about discussing honour killings?

Well, you certainly didn't want to.  You wanted to change the subject to "good Muslims" and violence by strangers, percentages of homicides and percentage of violent acts that involve family members and intimate partners.  Anything but honour killings.

Of course they do.  Many women choose to wear a burka, believe it or not, which is why I'm against laws banning them.

None of that changes the fact that a world hijab day celebrates women's oppression as much as it does their choice.  Apparently it also celebrates wilful blindness on the part of many.

Usually not after being forced to wear it first.  Ram a cold rod up 1000 people's asses & a few people will learn to like it too.  I don't know if i'd ban though.

pro-tip: you shouldn't take exception to being asked to support/substantiate your claims/statements; rather, you should embrace such requests as opportunities to prove you have a foundation for said claims/statements... that you're not just trolling or making shyte up.

why so threatened by a head-scarf?  ;D

It's not the garment itself, it's the ideas behind it. The patriarchal view of women, as I suggested earlier. And the more insidious message behind it.  From the World Hijab Day page I linked earlier:

Quote
Hijab is prevention from being accosted by ignorant minds who only judge a woman by the clothes she wears and the skin she shows. A woman’s body as you know is sacred and this is why Islam encourages women to strive to cover and protect it.

This idea that you need to dress modestly as "prevention from being accosted" or to "protect" your body is all rooted in a "look how she's dressed! No wonder she got attacked!" mindset that holds women responsible for inflaming lustful males, rather than holding males responsible for their actions.  I reject the idea that men are animals who can't control themselves, or that it's women's responsibility if men become inflamed.

I agree, but at the same time a hijab is pretty tame.  Nuns cover the hair, so do lots of orthodox Christian women before entering a church. It's also taken as a sign of modesty before god.  I think more extreme control comes with the niqab and burka.

Similarly, Jewish men wear a yamaka, Sikh men were turbans (ie: Jagmeet Singh) and Muslim men from virtually every country cover their head/hair in various traditions as well:
