Sorry for being so absent, but it's about to get worse.
« on: November 11, 2017, 09:11:31 pm »
I'll make it short.  I haven't been here much lately.  My mom had hip surgery in September, and with my sister taking her job at the post office, I've had a lot more responsibility at work.  Thing were about to go back to normal this upcoming week.  Well, yesterday life threw us all a new wrinkle.  My dad went for a routine angio. He decided to get it checked out, since he's had shortness of breath for a few years now.  He had no chest pain, and despite being overweight, he was in reasonably good health, strong and still working pretty much every day.  Well, the blockages that were found were far more severe than any of us were expecting.  He goes in within the next 10 days for 4-5 CABG surgery.  The next 3-4 months are going to be intense for me.  I apologize in advance for what will be regular absences even worse than those that have been happening over the last month and a half.

Thank you for your understanding.

I am sorry to hear about those troubles, and I think there is nothing more important than taking care of family. Good on you for taking that responsibility, and I wish you and yours the best of outcomes. We'll be here.
For what it's worth, I have been through what you describe so I have an idea what you're feeling. Again, best of luck.

Take care of your family and yourself first, we are merely strangers on the internet.  Hope everything goes very well for your mom and dad.

Everything we think is important as we go about our daily lives can be suddenly rendered utterly without value by health emergencies, pushed so far into the realm of 'I couldn't care less' that we might pause to wonder why we ever thought they mattered so much. Hope your family does well and regains its health.

We're still waiting on the appointment.  There's no wait list, but for some reason, the doctor hasn't sent the required info.  I think it must be sitting on someone's desk.  It was supposed to get straightened out today, so hopefully we hear something soon.

Update - now that the clinic finally got its act together, the surgery is indeed as fast as predicted.  Yesterday they phoned to schedule the pre-op for November 30th, and today, the surgery for December 1st.

Surgery is finished - not sure of exactly how everything went at this point.

Everything apparently went well.  He had a quadruple bypass, and there were no complications.
