Forum members will now have the ability and responsibility to moderate their own topics/threads.  If you start a thread, you now have the ability to delete and alter posts within that topic.  I will still look at reports made to the moderation centre, but I will be even more hands off.  If you see something within a topic that you think is out of bounds, message the original topic creator.

Interesting concept. Will people be able to moderate their own threads without suppressing contradiction? We'll see.

I doubt it. That's a slippery slope that would get boring quick.

Well at least we'll be able to suppress the troll(s).  Lol
I like the way this board works, with minimal moderation and I think adults can manage themselves, with perhaps a thread for resolving conflicts, to keep that out of content threads.
I thank John Mark and wish him well.

There are true trolls out there.

Let's keep it that way.

With due respect this Omni, Waldo and Granny 100% control and censorship of threads they start which is what they wanted in the first place.

This is a cop out JMT because you do not want to deal with them.

Moderation has to be done carefully and based on objective consistent criteria not the subjective whims of a handful of people on this forum who only want people responding to them when they agree.

What this now does is create ghetto talk, or controlled threads where Waldo, Omni and Granny will censor anyone who disagrees with them when they feel slighted, disagreed with, etc.

Been there done that. This is  without a doubt a stupid thing to do and I make no bones about it.

JMT if you did not want to moderate I get that. Giving in to a handful of bullies who have been a negative element on this board and allowing them to control the content of their threads is not conducive to free discussions just controlled threads.

If you wanted to attract new members this will not do it. They will soon realize anyone can censor anyone on a thread they start.

JMT a moderator must be neutral not have a vested interest in the decision they make. There is a clear conflict of interest and bias in the moderator you have created.

Maybe other forum members will be more open minded on thread they start but this is a stupid idea.

Either you are pregnant or not pregnanrt  but being giving the right to impregnate solely   to the person who does not get pregnant is assinine.

You should start a thread and show us what perfect moderation looks like. It would be kind of a cop out if you didn't.

please sir... no one wants to censor your comments - getting you to write for brevity, for conciseness... that is not censoring you. Given you've stopped laying down your 1500-3000+ word bombs, I do believe real progress has been made - progress that allows, that should allow, you to get your message/thoughts across rather than have them simply tl;dr dispatched. Controlling threads is what your voluminous screeds were all about - thanks for recognizing member concerns and adjusting your posting style - good on ya!

This sounds like an excellent modification. We will see how it works in practice, but it seems to solve many problems. If you really want a topic, then create it and those who are interested will participate. You are responsible for handling trolls yourself. Over time we will see how individuals moderate their own topics, and then we can decide if we want to participate in any of their future topics. In a small forum like this (where we know everyone) it should work out well, although it may not scale to a large forum.

You too can moderate your own threads.

No he doesn't. He does enough.

If that's the way you intend to do it, you can.

Kinda rude, and ungrateful, Rue.
JMT has no obligation to even have this discussion board. It's mind of him to leave it open for.
If you don't like it here, you are free to leave and host your own discussion board.
That's your choice.

I would enjoy taking part in a Rue moderated topic of his choice. I hope he can live up to the standard of moderation he has set for others.

Agreed on all counts and yes we shall see how it works out.  I'm sure you would have liked the option to kill off the troll that recently hijacked your avatar, whoever that was. And personally I am not so concerned with the size of the forum scaling up as much as I am with it keeping it's sanity. I dial into that "other place" every once in awhile which is certainly larger but you have to sift through so much nonsense it simply becomes a waste of time, and the moderatio9n is so obviously biased. I feel optimism for this new approach. TTFN.
