Victoria Does it Again
« on: June 07, 2019, 04:47:13 pm »
Victoria Silly Council does it again and votes to bill DND and Veterans Affairs for Remembrance day costs. On the 75th anniversary of D Day yet.

Where do they find these donkey's.

Meh...   the debate about the budget was slated for that day.   Poor timing given that it was D-day anniversary, but thereís nothing wrong with debating about whether the city should be spending the funds.

Aside from the disrespect, the cost is a drop in the bucket compared to what the Esquimalt naval base contributes to that community.

I can see why DND should be responsible for those costs and not a city.

So according to your logic the Canadian government should cover Canada costs and the provincial government should cover BC day costs and christian churches should cover costs of any christmas celebrations. It is nonsensical thinking. These events are put on because a significant number of taxpayers/residence of Victoria benefit from them and want them. That is the only criteria that matters when determining who should pay.

Remembrance Day is not a military event, it is the day the country pays its respects to the people who sacrificed and died so the people of Victoria could have the right to elect donkeys to their city council. These people have no respect, they want Veterans Affairs to help pay for it. But hey, itís Victoria, we should be used to it by now.

Veterans Affairs then.  That does make more sense.  Thanks.

So you think vets should pay to honour themselves. How big of you.

Thanks for your service, the bill will be in the mail.

Only if the city of Victoria stops funding ALL activities related to any holiday or special event. Using your logic, there is simply no justification for saddling the taxpayers of Victoria with these event costs unless 100% of the citizens are in favor of paying such costs.

Apparently the cost for these events is 15K. .006 of the cityís budget.

This is the same guy who was against the Invictus Games. Apparently a bunch of people with PTSD and missing limbs glorifies war.

No, Canadians should. Veterans Affairs is taxpayer funded.

Easy for you to say.  Are you one of the residents who has to deprive his family of 16 cents to make this work ?  </sarcasm>

You would be taking money intended for veterans and giving it to the city so the people of the city can pay tribute to the veterans. Remembrance Day would just be an exercise in hypocrisy. Better for Victoria just ignore it as they donít really believe in it anyway.

Why have a cenotaph, they can put it in storage with the statue of JohN A.
