Meh... the debate about the budget was slated for that day. Poor timing given that it was D-day anniversary, but there’s nothing wrong with debating about whether the city should be spending the funds.
Aside from the disrespect, the cost is a drop in the bucket compared to what the Esquimalt naval base contributes to that community.
I can see why DND should be responsible for those costs and not a city.
Remembrance Day is not a military event, it is the day the country pays its respects to the people who sacrificed and died so the people of Victoria could have the right to elect donkeys to their city council. These people have no respect, they want Veterans Affairs to help pay for it. But hey, it’s Victoria, we should be used to it by now.
So according to your logic the Canadian government should cover Canada costs and the provincial government should cover BC day costs and christian churches should cover costs of any christmas celebrations. It is nonsensical thinking. These events are put on because a significant number of taxpayers/residence of Victoria benefit from them and want them. That is the only criteria that matters when determining who should pay.
Veterans Affairs then. That does make more sense. Thanks. It makes total sense that Veterans Affairs cover Remembrance Day costs.
It makes total sense that Veterans Affairs cover Remembrance Day costs.
So you think vets should pay to honour themselves. How big of you. Thanks for your service, the bill will be in the mail.
Apparently the cost for these events is 15K. .006 of the city’s budget.
No, Canadians should. Veterans Affairs is taxpayer funded.
