My favourite Alberta separatism delusion is the one where people think an independent Alberta could get a pipeline to tidewater through the USA.

If USA was to build Alberta a pipeline so Alberta could get a higher price for oil, then the USA would have to pay more for that oil.

Itís delusional to think that they would ever be dumb enough to do that.

The head of Eagle Spirit says they have a deal with Hayder Alaska if he can't get Grassy Point. There would have to be something in it for Hayder which would drive up the cost, so I imagine that would be a last resort. If it's true, it would be really stupid to force the line into the US just a few miles away and have no control over the resulting tanker traffic.

The 97% figure that you love to quote has been debunked over and over again. The fact that you still repeat it over and over again is a perfect example of your own religious zealotry.

A person who cared about the science (not you) would understand that the science is complex and there are many different issues. Some are well understood and others are not. Scientists agree on some issues but disagree on others. Understanding climate science requires that one understand how the state of knowledge changes depending on the topic being discussed.

The topic being discussed is climate change, and that 97% of climate change scientists agree it's happening, and that it is human caused, which has been cited on here various times. Now if you have some new info. that rebukes that we'd love to see it.

The problem with this is twofold.  You would have to be a lot less well off, not just a bit, and (and this is the important bit) so would everyone else.  And they would all have to want to be.  We saw what happened in France when Macron tried to to make the French a bit less well off.  Imagine what will happen when we try to make the whole world as less well off as it's going to take to reverse AGW.

We actually donít have to reverse AGW or be a lot less off - we need to limit it - thar only requires us to be a little less well off.

Short sighted selfishness was found to be the answer.

Yeah, well, the rest of the country has had been spewing unflattering caricatures of Albertans forever, so don't cry when people respond in kind.

(Also, I think it's an objective fact that there's a lot of tofu being eaten in Vancouver. All those delicious Asian restaurants...)

This is fantasy victimhood...  I never thought anything of Alberta until the recent incessant whining started...   No one I know ever said a disparaging thing of Alberta...   until the whining...   now people here are noticing Alberta and comparing them to Quebec.

Basic disagreement here.  I don't think a little will do anything at all.

Edit> Sorry.  Thanks for the heads up.

Perhaps you could lay out your scientific background with regard to having studied AGW.

Quote
It's a joke.

The fact is Alberta politicians have created much of the mess the province is in Ė not oil prices, not Quebec, not Ottawa, not B.C. For years, they relied on oil revenues to keep taxes low and spending high Ė the highest per capita spending in the country. The province spent like the good times would never end, with no plan for the day the music stopped or at least slowed down.

"Alberta's deficit is a choice and not due to broad economic factors," University of Calgary economist Trevor Tombe told me this week. "We could have a balanced budget tomorrow and still have the lowest taxes in the country."

But that would be hard. That would take guts. It's much easier to complain about how mean everyone is being to them instead. Soon, however, that ploy will only engender deep, wide-scale resentment, and Alberta could feel more alone than ever.

Alberta is not hard done by in the least.

I love the term "debunked", it is thrown around like all other bunk.

RoC stupidity more like. I don't think it is that short sighted. If you just went by the way people think, the BC Alberta border would be somewhere west of the Okanagan Valley.

I think you have reason to complain & holler if you're losing billions of dollars in business, especially if it's because of some provinces you're give money to.
I queef, therefore I am.

Alberta is not hard done by in the least.

Canada is also in deficit by choice. A deficit that will get much bigger when the goose stops laying golden eggs. Either that or BC will have to take up the slack. Which seems to be exactly what you are wishing for.

Perhaps you could lay out your scientific background with regard to having studied AGW.

Perhaps you could just disagree.  I'm sure you have the scientific background to competently state your case.  All I have to do is look at what is actuallly happening.

As for background, I've been working in air quality since 1990, but in AGW specifically for only the last three years or so.  Still, that has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion quoted there by you.  What I do is completely unrelated.  That said, if you think I'm wrong, you could say so.

Or you could use the dumb icon.  That seems to work for some people, when they don't know what they're talking about.

I rely on the backgrounds of competent scientists who have studied in the field and make conclusions based on actual research.
