Does it?   Apparently, we’re a bunch of tofu eating tree huggers here on the coast.  Doesn’t that “say it all”?

“Speaker at rally says Alberta oil 'puts tofu on the table in Vancouver'”

Yeah, well, the rest of the country has had been spewing unflattering caricatures of Albertans forever, so don't cry when people respond in kind.

(Also, I think it's an objective fact that there's a lot of tofu being eaten in Vancouver. All those delicious Asian restaurants...)

The richer provinces contribute more...   good lord...  why is that such a difficult concept to understand?   ::)

The point isn't whether that's fair. Obviously that's fair.

The point is that as the industry that creates a big portion of that wealth gets choked, everybody is going to be less well off.

Okay, true, but a lot of us are okay with being a little less well off if it means having a planet to live on.

Yes, I did mean from - they’re treacherous waters - Vancouver is a far better port, even if it’s not ideal.

Not too treacherous for others and yet governments are gang ho to expand the Port of Prince Rupert right next door.

No worries, our government will just borrow more.

Whatever works to keep Canadians from dying in the billions and climate refugees overrunning our borders and taking all the good stuff.

With oil tanker traffic?

Aside from Exxon Valdez there has been zero tanker spills on the west coast, Zero, Zilch. How do you think oil moves around the world? Thousands of them on the east coast, tens of thousands in Asian and European ports.

Okay, true, but a lot of us are okay with being a little less well off if it means having a planet to live on.

The problem is, with a few exceptions, everyone knows it has nothing to do with the planet.  The pipelines Canada proposes might actually help.  The effect on AGW would be negligible, and our product is better regulated than just about any other.  The stuff goes by rail, and we know where that can lead.  What it's about, mainly, is pettiness.  Most of those in BC would either like to stick it to Alberta, stick it to big business, or just get photographed lying down in front of a bulldozer while wearing a woolly hat and carrying a copy of the Georgia Straight.

If they wanted a planet to live on they wouldn't export coal, build LNG plants or flood large swathes of it.

No - it’s clearly about climate change and choking off the oil sands - I support that.

And yet they export coal, build LNG plants or flood large swathes of it.  I agree they'd like to choke off the oil sands.  That'll teach 'em!

Anyway, it won't have any effect on climate change.  Surely everyone can see that now.

Edit>  I better say completely negligible before someone does a monkey peeing into the sea thing on me.

Canada can try and reduce its own emissions but that wont stop climate change and Canada certainly can't stop the rest of the world from using oil. The rest of the world is cashing in while Canadians wallow in self appointed sainthood, The US sold 167 million barrels of oil and petroleum to China at world price last year before they started their trade war and are getting $50 a barrel for their shale oil. Meanwhile while we trap ourselves into selling our product to them for next to nothing. They are laughing their asses off.

Coal is also on its way out.  LNG and hydro are worlds cleaner than either coal or oil.

Canada is one of the world's worst offenders when it comes to GHGs.

So what do you depend on for your livelyhood? How would feel is a bunch of self absorbed zealots decided that your job should be eliminated because it offends their religious beliefs?
