ICBC has some weird rules. Back before the Olympics I got the special plates for two of our vehicles. I sold one of the vehicles and kept the plates for nearly a year before I replaced the car and put those plates on a new vehicle. A couple of years ago, I wanted to change the renewal date on the other vehicle by renewing early but was told I would have to cancel and turn in the old plates before I could renew. Those plates had already been on the vehicle I traded in for this one. The only way I could change the date without surrendering the plates was to renew for six months instead of a year.
