I have heard a bit about this and I have a sense of why the cop was pissed off but it doesn't justify this.

Has to do with training and a sense of entitlement, I think, Police are trained that they have to 'take charge' of everything, and the only response when someone refuses to immediately comply is to use force. I've watched a lot of police videos from reality shows in the UK and Australia, as well as news clips from those places, and the police need a LOT more provocation before they arrest someone than police in Canada or the US do. You can yell at them, curse at them, argue strongly with them, and they tend to reply calmly. North American cops, the instant you step out of line you're on your face with their knee against your head while they grind your face into the sidewalk and say "Stop resisting!" for the benefit of any cameras.

The cop should be fired and the journalist should get $900,000 of taxpayer’s money.

I find this article confusing. It says this took place in May and he was released 45 minutes later and no charges laid. Later in the article it says he was subject to a 12 month  peace bond, public service and had to make a donation to something or other for obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest in October. They don't give the year in either case, so was this because of this incident or was he still under a peace bond from a previous incident?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Read it again. There were two people involved. The journalist and his camera guy. The camera guy got the peace bond.
