Dominic Cardy, the former leader of the NB NDP has joined the opposition Conservative party as an adviser, claiming the NDP in NB has been taken over by Communist agitators. Cardy lost several elections in a number of ridings, trying desperately to get a seat in the legislature. His final embarrassment was in the last election when the NDP didn't get a single seat, whilst the Green Party elected David Coon in the heart of NB's capital city, Fredericton. Coon was up against a former cabinet minister in the Liberal government who had left his party and moved over to the NDP, as well as a strong incumbent.
Hopefully Cardy's move to the Conservatives marks the death of the shift towards the centre that has defined NDP talking points in the last few years. They need to get back to their roots, fighting for labour and consumer rights and other social justice issues. The Green Party has eaten their lunch and become the progressive choice in NB.
