It got quiet up in here all of a sudden!  That's right ****!  Now get in the kitchen and make me a sa--

Nasty - stop it.

oh.  Sorry.  I was caught up in the moment.

Having now read the text of the ban resolution Toronto passed, we can move on, right?  The ball now goes to the federal government's court, so perhaps I should start a new thread in the appropriate place.

And who really needs a handgun or especially a semi automatic rifle? Only time I have ever packed either was in war zones.

You're actually going to make the case that Tim Horton's equips its overseas employees with hand guns?  ::)

I guess when it comes to issues like deadly weapons access to such needs to be more scrutinized than simply allowing every individual to own whatever they want. Perhaps if you lived on or near the Danforth you might just be thinking we need to do something.

The guy with the gun killed 2 people. The guy with the car killed 10. It is VASTLY easier to kill a lot of people with a pickup or a truck than it is with a hand gun. The trucks are much more easily available and can be rented by the hour.

Ah, don't waste time putting words in my mouth, you just look silly.

Much more natural for you to look silly with our own words.

So are you suggesting we ban vehicles? That's even dumber than the Tim Horton's idea.

No, I'm pointing out the idiocy of proposing a ban on handguns when you can just get into a truck if you want to go on a killing spree.

If you want to address people going on killing sprees tighten up on immigration and the oversight of Muslim extremists, and on mental health. If you want to address street gang shootings hammer anyone who tries to sell, or buy or is in possession of an illegal handgun.

Banning handguns will accomplish nothing except to make some politicians able to claim they did something.

I think if you do a little actual research you'll find a lot more people are gunned down than are run down intentionally by a pickup and so conflating the two methods of killing so as to conclude ignoring the former is truly idiotic. And if you are going to use your old standby whipping horse immigration to rid the place of perps then yep, you can start with African Canadians 25%, but then you have a problem as the next highest on the list are Aboriginals @21%. Um, psst, they aren't immigrants, they were here before us. But I will agree that mental health is probably a good issue to explore, as is drug addiction, and ways to provide opportunities for people to lift themselves from poverty, regardless of the color of their skin.

Well Toronto city council are certainly suggesting confiscating my ****, and the federal government is reportedly giving serious consideration to their demands.

Reported by who?

I believe the total situation is more important than vehicle vs gun. There have been many mass shootings with far more victims.

Canada's firearms laws are already quite restrictive.  I think all firearms should have to be registered with the gov't.  Unfortunately, this was a complete debacle...   I have no idea why they couldn't just roll the long gun registry in with the handgun registry.  I would have no issues if any gun, other than what is used for hunting, would have to be locked up and stored at a secure range, or even with the police.

Border security needs to be tightened up severely.  This would put a dent in the numbers of illegal guns in Canada.

I'm no ninja, but even I could smuggle something across here or here in the middle of the night without getting noticed.

Unfortunately, we have the gun crazed nutbars attached to us.  This has led to illegal guns being much more readily available than would be the case if we didn't have an unprotected border with these people.

The city of Toronto is advocating (pressuring) the federal government....  that's not even close to being the same thing as legislating.  A city has every right to pressure the feds into adopting what they think is legislation that would help their city.  I don't have an issue with what Toronto is doing.

It's the feds' responsibility to look at it and decide if they should go along with Toronto's suggestions.  Good luck to them...   it's not going to be simple...   banning handguns would probably help with the situation by making them a bit more difficult to obtain...  then again, we have an unsecured border with the gun nutz.

So when the handguns are gone, and the shotguns become popular with the 'mentally ill' and they get banned, what or who will you blame for the remaining number of gun murders?  One thing is for sure it won't be the popular philosophies of those who make the country and our cities what they are.  I suppose it will be the American's fault, or whatever is fashionable and gets liberals elected, because that's how it works in Canada.

Don't worry l'il buddy, the Americans will remain in the lead for gun murders for long after our time. (I don't care how young you are)

A tourist driving in Alberta west of Calgary was shot in the head by someone who didnít seem to like the manís driving....

I think it may be a watershed moment when we, as a country, do something fairly drastic about handguns.  It may be time for them to go.  If you need a shotgun and or rifle for hunting, then fine.   But your handgun hobby is too dangerous to remain legal.

I donít know if this was a handgun, but I would be surprised if he used a rifle while driving a car.

Hopefully they catch this prick soon.
