I wonder if this shooting is in any way related to the terror threat in Toronto from a week and a half ago?  What if all the attention and enhanced security in downtown Toronto scared the attacker off and made him/them find a new target and/or method?  What's with the coordinated and well-thought out press release from the attackers's family about the attacker's alleged mental illness immediately after his identity was released?

We all know that a mass murderer is motivated almost always by either 1) extremist Islamist ideology or 2) mental illness.  What if the Toronto police are trying to cover up for a failure in their policing by coordinating the identity release with the victim's family in order to control media & social media reaction?  What if this explains why it took so long for the police to release the name of the attacker?

What if this is all a means to distract from the Toronto police arrest of sexy-cute Hedley frontman on sex charges? https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/toronto-police-suspend-officer-after-alleged-leak-during-potential-risk-probe-1.4017000

Um, no. Any oof we who actually look at the stats know that both your 1) and ) are false and simply pablum for bigots to eat. I guess you could argue that having your girlfriend shun you causing enough anger to make you take a gun to school is a form of mental illness, but those cases often erupt without any prior warning, and are usually carried out by whiter guys.

Gunman identified as Faisal Hussain.
https://globalnews.ca/news/4346833/danforth-shooting-what-we-know-about-suspect/

Given his name I am sure many will jump to the conclusion that thus was radical Muslim terror, but there doesn't appear to be anything to suggest that this was anything more than a mentally ill individual acting out.

Also, a man armed with a knife was arrested on Parliament Hill.
https://globalnews.ca/news/4347952/stabbing-soldier-parliament-hill/
So the latest is:
"Ottawa Police have charged 24-year-old Jesse Mooney, of Ottawa, with assault and breach of probation. Initial reports that the suspect had been armed with a knife were described by investigators as inaccurate. A pocket knife was found near the suspect when he was arrested, police later clarified."

Dude was already on probation, and decides he wants to go fight a bunch of soldiers?

I would imagine the RCMP and CSIS will be involved until it can be established this was not a terrorist act.

Is that supposed to be a joke? Seriously unsure.

Its odd that the family had a statement prepared practically as soon as the name was released.

The cops clearly gave them the heads up.

A little more info on him in this article.  I'm not sure how someone "known" to the RCMP, CSIS, etc and with a history of mental illness got ahold of a gun.......

Quote
Files being reviewed by police include concern Hussain expressed “support” for a website that was seen as “pro-ISIL,” says a law enforcement source.

Sources say police in Toronto and CSIS officials in Ottawa, as well as the RCMP, are looking into his past, which sources say include his residence in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Hussain apparently had been spoken to by authorities about his online activities. Sources say Toronto Police, the OPP and the RCMP have all had an interest in the now-deceased shooter.

What law enforcement is saying is that the attack was planned, and Hussain was “well known to Toronto Police” for investigations into past crimes “involving weapons and violence.”

There's screenshots of his facebook going around today - pics of him in jihadi gear with grenades and assault rifles.  Some sources are saying that he served 4 years in the UK for stalking and threatening to throw acid in a woman's face, but I can't see anything that confirms that, other than it seems he did live in the UK, had a record there and somehow was accepted into Canada.  He also lived in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

It's quite possible he was both a jihadist and had emotional/psychological problems. I mean, obviously if you're unstable you're more apt to fall for that kind of crap. Just look at some of the people who fall for Trump's crap. How often have we thought "There's something wrong in that person's head" about them? I'd be interested in the gender of the victims. So far we only know of 2 dead, both female. How many of the others he shot were female?

Sure, it’s possible if you just make up bullshit that doesn’t have a shred of evidence yet because he’s got a name that makes you shit your pants in fear.

I assume that what she was quoting from the Sun was true.
I assume you read it before responding, which makes your response even dumber than most of your responses.

8 women, 7 men
The 2 that died were both very young females.

TORONTO -- Canadian investigators were digging Tuesday into the life of the 29-year-old man who opened fire on restaurants and cafes in a popular Toronto neighborhood, seeking to explain what prompted the rampage that killed a 10-year-old girl and a young woman and wounded 13 others. Investigators in Canada have indications that Faisal Hussain visited Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) websites and may have expressed support for the terrorist group, a law enforcement source told CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton.

Investigators are looking into whether Hussain may have lived at one time in Afghanistan and possibly Pakistan, the source said. There is no indication that Hussain was directed by ISIS to carry out the attack.

I kind of concur that mental illness can lead one to align themselves with fringe groups. Same as mental illness can lead a white person to be a White Nationalist.

I'm not completely convinced that religious fanaticism = mental illness.   :-\

Why not both?  What if the family of this shooter produced doctor reports, prescriptions, psychiatric notes about his paranoia and delusions, would you then allow that maybe he had mental issues, as well as being Muslim and fanatical?

Also, when you see people on the street wearing sandwich signs proclaiming God's Kingdom is nigh and calling on passers-by to repent, do you assume that their religious fanaticism means they are mentally sound?  Or do you think that part of their illness is the fanaticism?

Its interesting to me the push to remove "mental illness" from this guy by the same people who were only too happy to apply it to Bissonet, even though the profiles of the two killers seems pretty similar at this point and remarkably similar to many of the school shooters in the US.

One and the same aren't they?

No.  Muslim extremists rationalize murder using religious loopholes.  They have an elaborate ideology to morally justify their violence, they aren't usually mentally ill.
I can tell how good of a person you are by how you treat the people you disagree with.
