Clayton, SK declined Provincial funding for a bridge because they said it would be too expensive. So they had a cheaper one built... they saved a bundle by not having a geotechnical survey done and didn't build it to Provincial highways codes. "Those fat-heads in Regina can't tell us how to spend our money".
The great part is, it would not have cost Clayton, SK any more money since the Province was willing to fund everything above what they were paying on a good bridge. I guess it was the principle of spending money on a bridge they didn't like.
To be fair, it WOULD have cost them about what they paid for the bridge they built. They had to kick in that amount and the province would have funded the rest. They were trying to save the taxpayers money. The idea that since the province pays for it it's free money is inane. Anyway, who knows what went wrong, but apparently the company that built it has to replace it for free.
