2022 Ontario Election
« on: May 09, 2022, 11:35:28 am »
Dofo v Baldy

And Andrea is still there doing NDP things.

I think DoFo will walk away with this. Baldy (Liberal leader Steve Del Guinty) is just trotting out a wish list of progressive items.

But telling parents the COVID vaccine will be mandatory for schools if he's elected with be a tough platform plank to run on.

The vaccine does a poor job of stopping spread and school age children are not at a high risk of severe complications from COVID.

He's also pledged to bring back OAC (Grade 13) for some reason.

in your first post (now deleted... I guess), you said you were 'ok with the job DOFO has done'.

as the Conservative/DOFO supporter you are, care to state just what DOFO has done/accomplished - just listing the top 3 will satisfy the waldo, hey!

His flip flops on Covid were admirable.

He is a heartfelt idiot with rich friends.

That's the best of DoFo.  Is Stephen Delduca better ?  Horvath ?

I am voting NDP based on my local candidate.

That post was in the COVID thread.

His past two years are through the lens of how COVID was handled. I mostly approve of how COVID was handled in Ontario.

DoFo also has done his best not to pander to the Convoy Anti-Vax types. See having the "Freedom Fighters" removed from the Peace Bridge.

I do really like scrapping the Sticker Plate registration and the transit initiatives are mostly positive. He's also kept Electricity rates rather stable compared to the previous Liberal government.

DoFo seems hit and miss.  I think he handled covid mostly well, which surprised me.  Certainly not perfect.

I like DoFo better than his party mates.  They also seem to be taking a page out of the Liberal playbook and promising the world in spending in order to legally bribe voters.

The ON Liberals are vile incompetent crooks to the core.  If the PCs lose I hope the NDP beat the Liberals.

I don't see how Del Puka promising vaccine mandates on ontario's not at all vulnerable school children is going to make parents vote for him.  65% of kids 11 and under are unvaxxed in ON.  Liberals all about dem mandates.  Clearly they know better than parents themselves!

COVID vaccines are a great thing.

But they aren't Measles vaccines that have actually seen years of trials and testing.

Children do not need to be vaccinated against COVID. Especially considering that the vaccine has not proven to prevent spread of the virus.

Both NDP and the Liberals have both proposed implementing/strengthening rent controls.

For me, that would be a huge mistake. Pretty much every economist agrees that in the long run they are harmful. It messes up both the supply and demand. They may be popular with many people, but those who get harmed (those who can't find housing because rent controls have limited the supply) often don't see WHY they can't find housing.

I think there should be a maximum amount for an increase, and it should be very modest.  But an actual cap on how much one can charge?   That’s a great way to push more rental units to become Air BNBs.

Loosening controls gave us this situation...

This "wave" saw a much smaller crest of Hospitalizations than before. Today's numbers showed that only 42% of those Hospitalized "with" COVID are there "because of" COVID.

This all begs the question as to what benchmarks we would use to re-implement restrictions.

I'm hopeful for a DoFo re-election because I suspect Baldy with the Liberals will eagerly re-implement restrictions once petitioned by a handful of doctors.

Weird issue to be a single-issue voter on.

Early April, Del Duca does this big grandstanding thing about how Ford was literally murdering your grandma by removing mask mandates and vaccine mandates, accuses him of playing political games with people's lives.

A couple of days later, we see these pictures from an Ontario Liberals rally, a jam packed indoors gathering with hundreds of people where nobody is wearing a mask or social distancing.

So who's really playing political games? If these people really thought lives were at risk, wouldn't somebody have been wearing a mask?

And, as "the sixth wave" tore through Ontario and resulted in BARELY OBSERVABLE impact on the healthcare system, the Ontario Liberals went from "Ford is playing GAMES with PEOPLE'S LIVES" to "let's talk about...  HANDGUNS".

I certainly get the argument that right-wing political parties have played political games with the pandemic.    But if you're going to tell me that their opponents aren't doing the same, I think the Del Duca Liberals are Exhibit A in the counter-argument.

It sounds like this election is going to be a landslide.  Anybody disagree?

It seems like there's a big disconnect between Ford's unpopularity in "very online spaces" vs his real world popularity.  Anybody disagree?

Last election Ford's PC's won with 40%.  He might get that or close to that this time, but maybe not since people are stupid and will give Liberals more votes this time even though they have destroyed the province.  I hope the NDP get more votes than the Liberals.

Also, granny doesn't post on twitter so you may be right.

Twitter does not reflect reality. On both sides of the political spectrum.

The Ontario Liberals were so scandal plagued and Del Duca played a huge role in that government, that the stink does not go away from it.

He's also quite smarmy.

I'm of the opinion that DoFo is hyper pragmatic, and I like that.
