Mountain Equipment Co-op is selling out to an American capital venture firm. Time to trade in our maple leaves for the US greenback.

Interesting that the members were never consulted. How is that a CO-OP?

On the news this morning there was something said about MEC declaring bankruptcy a while ago, which somehow released them from having to obtain member agreement to the sale.  I wasn't listening too closely, but probably more info available via Google-U.

I used to shop at MEC a bit, but it seemed to become more expensive and less useful for me over time.

Yeah, I've only been there a time or two because I found it really expensive - but nice stuff.

MEC just too far away for us. We have bought a lot of stuff at Valhalla Pure over the years. Also expensive but nice stuff.

Anyone shop at Taiga Works? We used to when we lived close to the city.
