My favourite part is that you can see how everyone answered, so you know exactly who thinks you're an ****.

Is Alberta seriously considering secession? Some of you mentioned something to that effect but we wouldn't hear it in the MSM in the States. (most of us are occupied with our presidential primaries right now.)

No but it could become a serious issue at some time in future.

Would Ottawa just "let it go" if it happened? Or deploy troops? Or, like the Spanish did with Catalonia, arrest the ringleaders?

Alberta would invade southeastern and northeastern BC and annex those portions, much like Russia and Crimea.  Jason Kenney would be leading the charge on horseback.  With cowboy hat drawn tight.

Well, Quebec held two referendums on separation and no one was arrested but it seems they are held to a different standard, so who knows.

Maybe JT should just invite Kenney into the ring for a boxing match. Compared to Patrick Brazeau, Kenny should be first round KO.

Yes, Albertans would be rounded up and tried for treason if they try and separate.   ::)

Kenney is no Putin, not by a long shot, especially not after I saw recent pictures of him.

The might go voluntarily, they certainly have more in common with Alberta than they do with the lower mainland and island. They are even in the same time zone as Alberta.

They can't go voluntarily...   There is no mechanism for a handful of people in a region to remove that region from Canada/BC and join a different province/country.   You know this, and yet you still made such an asinine comment.    What you post makes zero sense and has zero basis in fact.  I think you've become a troll on this site because the election made you grumpy.

Once you open the can of worms, anything can happen. You are talking about forcibly keeping people in confederation against their will.

does your worm can that presumes to be able to separate Alberta from Canada... also allow for sub-divides of Alberta to remain within Canada... I mean, as you say, you are talking about forcibly keeping people in a separated Alberta against their will - yes?

It's unknown territory, My worm can doesn't presume anything, none of us know what would be possible.

Ontario will send busloads of people to Alberta, painted with love and hearts and flowers and Thank you's to woo the shy cowboys and boisterous riggers, let them know they are loved and needed and welcome to ride their horses through our hotels anytime.
Maybe Quebeckers will join in too.
Hell, we could fill buses with riggers from every province and territory who have worked in Alberta!

:  )

Sometimes it's important for people to just get to know people, and forget about politicians whose only goal is to divide us against 'the other'.
Sometimes Albertans must forget that we all love the whole country and everyone in it. : )

Jason Kenney's choices: Prop up the failing oil industry or create and sustain other jobs?
https://nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pmn/canada-news-pmn/alberta-ends-program-for-firefighters-rappelling-from-helicopters
"*PLEASE READ* This is a picture of me in 2012 freshly out of Wildfire Rappel training on my first day suited up beside the helicopter. I devoted 4 years to protecting our province, itís communities, resources, and watersheds from that day. I cannot put into words what this program meant to me and so many others. Being a Rappel firefighter changed my life, it showed me direction, it taught me work ethic, it shaped my character, it provided me with timeless friendships. Yesterday the Government of Alberta dismantled the program in its entirety. 40 years burnt down as quickly as a wildfire sweeps through a dry forest. I hope all first responders take this as a wake up call and stand up for their jobs and their rights. This is only the beginning. This province now has less firefighters to protect those remote communities. @jkenney"

Wth?! Getting rid of other good jobs, while still pouring money into the sinking ship of the oil industry?
Oil is going down, and Jason Kenney is taking Alberta down with it.

Hey, look: I might not think much of the 35.76 brains among the Wexiteers, but I still wouldn't call them worms.
