Title: The war machine - Canada & the world
Post by: ?Impact on September 29, 2019, 02:28:15 pm
I put this under Canadian politics because we often hear about the size of the Canadian Forces. Canada does appear only briefly on this timeline, between 1943-45. The video shows over time the troop size of all military forces under national command (see the description, the title on the video is not very detailed), it does not include reserve forces. What is very interesting is correlating these with world events; perhaps someone should do a more detailed video but that would need to be much longer to give enough time to absorb so much.

Militarily Canada was still considered part of the British Empire until the 1930's, otherwise it would have probably appeared during WW1, Australia as well. It's interesting how current events affect the size. The US went from near the bottom to #1 during its civil war then back to near the bottom again. The big buildups in Europe during the Franco Prussian and Austro Prussian wars then again in the lead up to WW1.
