Title: Hong Kong Revolt
Post by: Omni on August 13, 2019, 12:14:03 pm
Having traveled through the Hong Kong airport a few times in the past I thought it was tough going with the crowds then. Looking at what's going on today makes me happy not to be there now. The revolt against the extradition proposal started over two months ago and has escalated ever since. What will be scary is if Beijing decides to invade to quell the upheaval.

With a lame duck in the Whitehouse China has no fear of retribution from the US.

Don't underestimate the Donald.

His trade war is a whole lot of nothing so far, and I don't see him putting any effort into a moral fight.

I imagine he backed off when he saw what his threatened tariffs did to the markets. Dow was down 900 or so.

I meant in terms of Trump's chances of being re-elected.  It probably won't happen, but it could.

Thought we were talking about the protests in Hong Kong...?

Beijing is already calling it "terrorism". (The wok calling the kettle?)

"With more than 95% of constituencies declared, pro-democracy candidates appeared to have won a landslide victory."

Yes but it's symbolic.  The local government has little power.
