They really had their time.  Can't we do a wider thread?

What about other greats?

The Stones
Velvet Underground
U2
Nirvana
REM
Radiohead

My friend maintains Pablo Honey is the best. TBH I only got on board with OK Computer and have never listened to 'The Bends'.

And now you have given me an assignment !  ;D

Ok - so I listened and I still think OK Computer is superior.  Also heard the 2nd track from Pablo Honey today randomly Anybody Can Play Guitar or somesuch.  Ok computer saw them pop out from another 90s band into a group with their own legacy and yet somehow very connected to British Rock, not Brit Rock or Brit Pop.

But The Bends is a great album, don't get me wrong.  Thom Yorke comes on with some of the simpler arrangements and you get that Radiohead gravitas.  There's no greater example than High and Dry, the 3rd track that just arrives with a weight of understated emotion.  I really liked them for about 3 albums... but between those tracks and a few on KID A was where they shone for me.  The experimental stuff is great too but ...

I keep thinking about something actor Klaus Kinski reportedly said to Verner Herzog after the director told him some acting piece he did was great...

"I was NOT great, I was MONUMENTAL !!!!"  OK Computer is monumental.

Most Floyd fans consider Animals a letdown from DSOTM and Wish You Were Here. I personally think it is underrated. I like "Dogs"

I'm with you on that one. I think it comes down to when people discovered Radiohead. Those who discovered them during the OK Computer album will always have nostalgia for that one. It's great, sure. The Bends is just a better rock album though.

It's fine but lacks the texture of the later works.

Texture? It’s the only album with texture

Paranoid Android is my favorite Radiohead song.  I have no idea what it's actually about, but the music and vocals are wonderful, especially the choral section toward the end ("From a great height...")
