The Prince - Niccolo Machiavelli
Any of the Clive Cussler "Dirk Pitt" novels (before Valhalla Rising)
Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton
2001 and 2010 - Arthur C Clarke
1984 - George Orwell
The Navajo police books - Tony Hillerman
Hitchhiker's Guide series (first 3 books) - Douglas Adams
The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R.R.R Tolkien (even though it took me forever to finish it)
