I hope everyone had a holly jolly Xmas and that Santa was good to ya. I did a little travelling for some family visits and had the traditional turkey dinner a couple of days early at one visit and then ended up back home for the 25th.It was agreed that another turkey would be redundant, and so having been appointed chief cook and bottle washer, I suggested Indian food, and all agreed. As a result I spent a good portion of the day grinding up spices and chopping up vegetables, and oh yeah, sipping a little single malt.

All the best to all in 2019.

We had family over and Easy met his cousin.  At 2 months, he actually seemed to respond to her somewhat !  We're going to have chicken wings at a sports bar this afternoon and I am in the mood for a beer.

That's a great idea! Babies love beer!  He might be a little young for chicken wings, though.  You should buy him a little Raptors toque! Everybody at the sports bar will love it. People love babies with sports logos on their hats.

Merry Christmas everyone!  It's almost over. Will feel some relief on Tuesday when we get home and I don't have to go to more parties and stuff.

Christmas hot-takes:

-turkey is overrated.  The stuffing is always the best part of a turkey dinner.

-"Last Christmas" by Wham is terrible. Repetitive whiny crap that doesn't actually even have anything to do with Christmas.

-"The Muppets' Christmas Carol" is the best adaptation. Michael Caine knocks it out of the park, of course, but The Great Gonzo also shines as the narrator.  It's an approachable and family-friendly spin on the story that retains the message and also manages to weave in some well-chosen excerpts from Dickens himself ( for example "Darkness was cheap, and Scrooge liked it." is a brilliant little snippet that manages to convey so much in just a handful of words.)

-"The Polar Express" also deserves more love. The "uncanny valley" feel to the animation might have cost it some recognition when it was new, but today as computer-generated imagery has advanced so far, I think that Polar Express can be more properly enjoyed as an animated fantasy rather than a slightly disturbing attempt at photorealism, because it really doesn't feel very "uncanny valley" in 2023.

-Harry Belafonte, Bing Crosby, and Bert Kaempfert remain my Three Wise Men of Christmas; Dean Martin on the other hand can go do a backflip into an empty pool. He always sounds like he's drunk.

-the Paul McCartney Christmas song sucks too.

Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits.
You try to match wits, you try to hold me but I bust through.

Fun fact: He hired the Beatles to back up Tony Sheridan for their first-ever recording session.

Agreed.  I also like the duet Bing Crosby does with David Bowie, as well as the one Will Ferrell and John C Reilly.

I think Nat King Cole is the Xmas crooner GOAT.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Edit:  I forgot I had already wished everyone a merry Xmas at the top of the page.

Howdy all, Merry Christmas too!

I just tested out my Xmas present - a new generator!  The propane bottles filled in case we have to cook the turkey with gas. At least it's only a storm warning here - there's hurricane force warnings on the North Coast.  It was a beautiful calm before the storm on the ocean yesterday.

I'm all out of demerara sugar though. It's unpasteurized honey in my coffee and the missus has seized all the white sugar for the hummingbirds. Hopefully next year will be a little sweeter.

I'm familar with gasoline generators.  But pouring gasoline into the generator is a bit inconvenient and can be messy.  These natural gas generators are really cool if you have the gas lines in your area, the lines work when the power is out so no need to refill the generator.

Severe storms seem to be more frequent in my area the last 10-15 years, probably global warming.

Christmas Day is the one day of the year. You should put aside your politics, and do everything that the Prime Minister wants you to do.

🤣

Laughing just because

Mine is just a gasoline generator.  I think you must be talking about a generator put out by Generac.  They sound pretty good alright.

Now I see they've upgraded the south coast to a hurricane force wind warning as well.

My tenant just took off to the beach with his surfboard. Hopefully I'll still have a tenant by the end of the day.
