I'm not sure. In hindsight I think a lot of what happened was very heavy-handed.
Did we really need to close schools so long? Did we really need to shut down most forms of recreation?
Kids have repeatedly shown to not fare as bad with COVID as older adults. Does that mean kids couldn't see Granny? Well that's the reality we had back then, and are experiencing now because kids are all getting sick at the same time.
I don't think you can talk about things being overly heavy handed without acknowledging what would have happened without many of those measures, which is a lot more sick and dead people.
That's not to say the response was perfect or without issues of their own, but everything comes with tradeoffs.
One thing I'm 100% sure of: when we have another pandemic, the response will be far less heavy-handed and the damage from it much worse.
