The conversation should exclude bad faith participants.

Not how politics works though.  Everyone has a say.  If a minority freak out on twitter and some politician or some company responds to it nobody can stop that.

So maybe a solution is we stop placating vocal minorities with bad ideas as much as we do even if they get offended.  Maybe we as a society should have more conviction and grow a backbone.  Maybe we should do what is right rather than what is PC or the latest twitter trend.

Twitter sucks because the vocal minorities become the tip of the spear where before we could ignore them easier if we wanted.

Sure, but in most cases everyone on the boat recognises who is captain.  That's often not the case with a discussion, especially if the subject is contentious.

It's a world of captain's on a ship of fools.

As far as the wokies are concerned, the conversation needs to exclude everybody who doesn't agree with them.

Earlier you said "cancel culture is not a thing."  Okay, let's avoid the term cancel culture because it's not clearly defined and whether it's "a thing" depends on how you define it.   Efforts to deplatform contrary opinions are definitely a thing. Efforts to punish people for contrary opinions are definitely a thing. Even criminal charges for contrary opinions are now a thing.  We've talked about all of these things in another thread.

To me this is a distinction between progressives and the Woke.  Progressives say "we need to have a dialogue about this issue."  Wokies just want to destroy anybody who disagrees.

 -k

It's a pretty effective tactic though.  They can bully people into compliance by calling you a racism or homophobe etc if you disagree, and few people want that label on them.  That's how you control the narrative.  I'd never say 70% of the things I say here on Facebook.  FB demands compliance unless your friends aren't on the left, or you're an arse and just don't care, are you have huge balls.

So if you agree with a lot of woke precepts, but you're open to conversation then you're not woke ?

Why does it feel like people are building a bogeyman around this.

Wokies are nuts a fair bit of the time.  This is their own fault.  I agree with them on some things, but they really need to check themselves before they wreck themselves, which they've already done.

I don't consider myself woke obviously, but I am progressive on lots of things.  I can support women's rights and reforms on police brutality on black people, does that mean I want to see a black female lead in every show TV preaching about mansplaining microagressions?  I have no problem with black female leads, just don't shove it down my throat with a political agenda.  Everyone just behave normally.  Why is this so hard?  Why is everything so annoying now?

I agree, and yes we should start ignoring and forcing resignation on people who are out of line.

Ok, then wokie is a caricature of an extreme identity politics person.  Can we focus, instead, on the legislation they are proposing?

Not when so many other wide-awoke people are so woke to the communist agenda of those proposing it.

There are basically no Communists anymore.  Anyone who is raising that is likely a troll

Who now ?

I just did the calculation... .02% voted Communist in Canada in 2019.  That's 1% of Bernie's clown 🤡 gathering the Communist sounding People's Party of The Canada.

Woke culture has me considering voting Conservative.  NDP is a lost cause…. So far from what their party ideals used to be.  I can’t vote for the party trying to out-woke Trudeau….

Greens are imploding.

Trudeau’s broken electoral reform promise, and his other stupidity, has confirmed why I have never voted Liberal.

I know what you're saying but nonetheless there are millions of people who don't, won't and probably can't.

I agree with much of what you're saying and I'm at the point where I don't really care who gets the most seats between the Liberals and Conservatives (I used to see the Liberals as slightly better), but I don't think I could bring myself to actually ever vote conservative.

Maybe I'll vote Communist just to prove MH's theory.

Isn't wokism just as alive and well there as anywhere else? I think they just call it being reactionary - same crap just a different bucket.

Problem is we don't, we'd rather kowtow than be called a racist sexist homophobe.  Same with companies/organizations/governments.

So then we have what we have, which is being politically correct about everything based on what the highly sensitive vocal minority wants so to avoid their online wrath.
