They're boring.  Just like drum solos.  There's only so much you do with one, without entering the realm of the ridiculous, and it's been done to death.

I liked Bullitt.  Not so much since then.

That was a great car chase, but you're setting the bar pretty high if you expect them to all be that good. The worst car chases were on CHIPs, an old TV show about the California Highway Patrol that was insanely predictable. Ie, any car chase that took place in the first half of the show would end in someone in a truck blocking the way for our intrepid motorcycle cops so that the bad guy got away. Always.

There are a number of really good car chases on You Tube, though, mostly ones that are taken from the dashcam of pursuing police cars.

Bullitt was the original big movie car chase and still the best I think. No CGI back then.

I liked Bullitt because it was the first. There's only so much you can do with a car chase. That's why I lumped them in with drum solos.

Even when they flip semis, it's still a good time to put the kettle on.

Fredericton drivers don't even know how to merge in a city with roughly 50,000 people.

Go ahead....tell me it's worse in Vancouver.

Don't get me started on merging and Lower Mainland/Vancouver Island drivers....  why is it so g.d. hard to let someone merge???

North Shore people are the exceptions, they are merge masters because of Lion's Gate bridge.

The rest of the city though, agreed.  Freaking nightmare.

When you have an intersection with a lane that turns into its own separate lane and a sign that shows you the lanes do not merge, people in Fredericton almost always come to a complete stop. It's literally not even a merging lane. They have their own lane on the other side of the corner and they still come to a stop.

Does that lane end, or continue?  Because if it ends, it's a merge lane, and it's okay to stop before it.

The problem with bad mergers is that they jump into the first available space that opens up instead of going all the way to the end and making like a zip.

The knock on effect slows traffic for miles.

What if you get to the end and no break appears? No, the proper way to merge is to stop and wait right near the start of the merge lane, until a suitably large break appears.

I personally like to stop and wait until I can't see any traffic in either direction.   Sometimes the people behind me get a little impatient, but hey - better to merge safely, right?
