what are you listening too
« on: December 17, 2018, 01:54:37 am »
I'm an old fart but I can strum a few chords and I have a basket full of harps.

I've been whackin' away on this one all night.

Bing Crosby will always be Mr Christmas as far as I'm concerned. Also Harry Belafonte Christmas songs.

Dad had a cassette full of instrumental Christmas music by The Living Strings and Bert Kaempfert, which is also dear to my heart. I'm sure the cassette has long ago turned into mush, and the vinyl records it was recorded from are long gone, but I managed to put some of it onto CD. I looked for Living Strings on Youtube and couldn't find the versions I liked. They all seem to be later versions that added a choir-- "Living Strings And Living Voices"-- that just aren't the same.

I can tell how good of a person you are by how you treat the people you disagree with.

I too am listening. But to Ritchie Blackmore's grandmother's favourite song "Deep Purple." I started with the 1963 hit by Nino Tempo and April Stevens, but then went back to the old Artie Shaw hit. I was disappointed by the Adelaide Hall version (too square. Nothing like how she sang "Blues I Love to Sing"). My favourite is the Art Tatum solo piano version.
Spotify is fun.

That shovel-guitar sounds great! Terrific dirty-bluesy slide-guitar sound.  It gives a whole different meaning to "heavy metal guitar".

I am surprised that the steel shovel blade doesn't interfere with the magnetics in the pick-ups.

Amazing take on Gallows Pole...   I originally heard that song done by Led Zeppelin, which I think is a fantastic version too.

Easy Listening from the turn of the 1970s decade.  I listened at work yesterday, then brought it up at home and Joan says "we OWN this album !"  ???

We played 'Thunderstruck' by ACDC for Easy and he actually started pumping his fist, then grabbed a fistful of momma's hair so we're taking it slow on metal for him.   :D

That said, the whole family loves the new song from the world's most self-realized example of artistic irony:
