There must be something you're not telling us, because that sounds like a recipe for unrest.  Shes six and they are all in their thirties?

We don't do presents either.  Or cards, this year.

Why would you turn them off?

Probably not as important with LED’s but it was with the old power eating incandescents.

She's 3... the nephews are evenly spaced from 10 to 18 with an additional 6 year old.  The 6 year old may be getting something from his parents, I'm not sure.

Hey, we are supposed to be reducing energy consumption, constantly being told to buy energy efficient this and that. Incandescent bulbs have been banned etc. If you don’t get your power from renewables you are poluting, how are we going to charge all those electric cars if you leave lights on, yada yada yada.

Of course, because there is no longer any heat being generated by lighting in my home, the gas furnace will have to run more to make up the difference. Life is full of contradictions.

What about the air conditioner having to run more in the summer to remove the heat generated by that lighting? How about we agree that in Canada it is a wash.

I dunno. I guess it's how you are raised. For us, the toyland around the Christmas tree was a major part of our childhood Christmases, so we have kept it up. It's inconceivable to us not to give presents to each other and to the kids.

We have done that every year but this year we're trying this.
