Pretty much. You'll have people posting the contradictory opinions of bloggers, as if their views are equally (if not more) valid to those of the scientific community in regards to scientific analysis. I don't know why we take those people seriously.
The trouble is some of the time the voices from outside of the established authorities turn out to have a point. It was not too long ago that the "authorities" believe that being gay was a mental illness or that stress caused ulcers. Even if 99% of the contrarian voices are full of crap you can stop them without shutting off the 1% that provide useful protections against groupthink and complacency.
