First headhunter today was very approachable, knowledgeable, well-connected but young.

He's pushing for a $10/hr raise for me at another bank.

Let's see where this goes.  He's #1 on my list at present.

Also - his background is a PhD thesis in Shakespearean studies, go ARTS ! :D

When I was in college I thought I might want to be an "IT professional". Then in a class which I believe was called Systems Analyses, my teacher said something to the effect that you'd have to keep taking courses and upgrading your skills on a continuing basis, every year, and also, don't expect any job security. You'll be moving around a lot. I didn't think much of either of those things. I switched my major to Business Administration - Management, from Business Administration - Information Technology. I like to settle down, to settle in, and I like the security of knowing I won't be scrambling after rent/mortgage money any time soon. The gypsy life is not for me.

We just got back from Boston. It was a great time. I recommend staying at The Lenox if you're there.

Michael's experience with unemployment sounds like a non-stop party.

My experiences with unemployment have generally consisted of non-stop stress over money mixed with periodic bouts of thinking about turning to a life of crime.

The first time I was unemployed it lasted 19 months and almost ruined me. I am doing better this time.

In York Beach, Maine... Big house... 6 nephews, parents...Sea view.

Life is always better than the alternative.

Augh... well I have now settled into the groove of being able to get, like, 4 things done in a day while wife is at work.

I had an interview yesterday for a Director position with a start-up.  Felt strange being around grown-ups, and now I understand the term 'fake it until you make it' I think...

I think he is probably old enough to retire if he wants to and has considerably more resources than a younger person.

Yes and no.  I could retire in absolute poverty or I could work 1/2 the year and do fine.  But my best resource is my own peace of mind... for now...

I had a retirement plan - was supposed to retire to the US in 5 years (2 years ago) and just teach some flamenco classes down there for part-time work.  But I met someone here who is nowhere close to retirement and still has a mortgage, so here I am suffering through another Alberta winter with no end in sight.  He better be worth it.  >:(

Bah.  Really enjoying my routine these days.  A couple of hours of arguing on the web.  An hour or so of chores.  An hour or so of TV.  The rest of the time goes here and there :)

Which means... I think I am about to get a job...

I'm 75% sure I'm going to get this one...

I have to do this... if I get this then wife & I will be earning really really good $ and will hopefully be confident enough to buy a place soon...

(Yes, I rent, and if you were me you would rent also.  We could buy but buying in Toronto right now is still crazy expensive...)
