Well the Jets managed to squeak into the playoffs, with a final win against Arizona.  In the end, it was a turtle race for the Central Division crown, and Nashville edged Winnipeg out by one point.  This means that the Jets will host the high flying St.Louis Blues, and will have their work cut out for them.

It could be worse I guess. We could be the Leafs.

You don't know what "squeak" means, do you?  They're one of the favourites and are several points ahead of teeams that actually did "squeak" into the playoffs.

THE FAVORITES
Tampa Bay Lightning  11/4
Calgary Flames  8/1

THE CONTENDERS
Boston Bruins  10/1
San Jose Sharks  10/1
Washington Capitals  10/1
Winnipeg Jets  10/1
St. Louis Blues  12/1
Nashville Predators  14/1
Pittsburgh Penguins  18/1

THE REST OF THE PACK
New York Islanders  20/1
Toronto Maple Leafs  20/1
Vegas Golden Knights  20/1
Carolina Hurricanes  25/1

The Jets have been terrible for the second half of the season, after leading the Western Conference.  Secondly, those odds are bizarre.  Nashville won the Division, and has a higher probability of winning the Cup than the Jets.  I guess Vegas does not know anything about the NHL, as even Washington (defending Cup champions), who won their division and #2 seed, is behind Boston in odds.

Nashville had 1 more point than the Jets.

...and Division winners always have a greater probability of winning the Stanley Cup than non-division winners, due to the playoff format.  That is pretty much common sense for any sports fan.

Not anymore...   the disparity between 1st place and whom they play is much less than the old conference playoff format.  Although, coincidentally, the matchups are exactly what they would have been in the west if they were going by conference.  Not so in the eastern conference.

The Jets also won 3 out of 4 matchups against the Preds this year...

There's no reason the Preds should be favoured above the Jets, other than end of the year records, which don't always translate into playoff success.

Incorrect. The #1 team in the Division plays the Wildcard team, which is either #4 or lower ranked in their division.  The #2 team plays the #3 team in the division. There, the Division winner plays a team with a weaker record, than the #2 team in their division.

The Jets and Predators are not playing each other in the first round, and may not play at all.  So that is irrelevant.

The Preds won the division, therefore should be favored over any other team in the Central division.  It makes no sense to have the #2 team ranked higher than the #1 team.

So the Jets kind of struggled and gave up a lot of goals since the all-star break? Is that what you're saying?

Jets record at All-Star Break: 31-15-2
Jets record since All-Star break: 16-15-3

Yes they have struggled.  They had a comfortable lead in the Central Division, and were at one point #1 in the Western Conference.  Unfortunately, they lost two of their best defensemen (Morrissey and Byfuglein) for most of the last 2 months, and Laine has been cold as ice.  The top line has also not been performing well.

Thankfully it looks like Morrissey will be finally ready for the playoffs, and that could make a big difference.  Jets also have to hope Hellebuyck plays very well, and their top six forwards start producing, as their bottom six have been great. It could come down to Laine regaining his goal-scoring prowess to lead the Jets past the St.Louis Blues.

Canucks lose in draft lottery again dropping from 9th to 10th. Would be nice if they could just pick as high as their finish some year, never mind getting #1.

I'm just glad Colorado did not win the lottery.

Game 1 of the playoffs went exactly as I predicted it would for the Jets. Start off strong, take a lead into the 3rd period, and blow the lead, as the top line is gassed, and the bottom lines are not playing as much as they should.  The Jets will have to find a way to play 60 minutes of hockey or this could be a short series.

It would be great for the Blues to win.  The only "original expansion" team left (that is still going that is, hi Oakland !!!) that has NOT won a cup.

Although they did make it to the finals, twice I believe.

The Blues have made it to the Finals 3 times (1968,69,70).

The post-season has been cruel to the Blues throughout history, as they ahve has some really good teams over the years. The team just never manged to have much success in the playoffs.

St.Louis is my pi k to reach the Conference Finals. I think a Calgary vs St.Louis match is the most likely scenario.
