Any of you West coasters ever been to the Queen Charlottes?

Yes indeed. I was based various times working out of Sandspit, Massett, and Langara airports. It truly is a beautiful place and it was fulfilling engaging with the local people.

I've been within sight of Cape St James a few times when fishing but I've yet to step ashore anywhere. I'd like to someday.

The Pandemic has made me comfortable financially. I want to spend some of that in Canada Later. I have some places in mind I haven't been. Niagara On the Lake, Kingston, Gaspe, Lunenburg, Fogo, Charlottetown, Haida, Tuktoyuktuk, Dawson City..and I'm taking suggestions.

It's Haida Gwaii now but some of us still call it the Charlottes. Looked down at it  but never set foot. We were planning a road trip that would take us to Victoria then up the Island to Port Hardy. Then we were going to take the ferry to Prince Rupert and over to Skidegate. After returning to Rupert we would head back via Prince George and Whistler. Then Covid got in the way. We still hope to do it in 22. Looking forward to getting poked so we can travel again.

Thanks - I wasn't sure what the actual name was now.

Highly recommend Niagara on the Lake.  If you go I can give you the name of a very affordable but historic bed-and-breakfast with the best breakfast you've ever had in your life that will blow your mind I guarantee.

I love saying "Tuktoyuktuk".

I recommend Quebec City too and Montreal too if you've never been.  I've wanted to head to Queen Charlotte Islands.  Incredible fishing on the pacific I hear.

If you get up to Tuktoyaktuk make sure you pick up a T-shirt from the university there. Big letters on the front TUK-U

Never been to Haida Gwaii, but anyone I’ve ever talked to who has been there has enjoyed it very much.  Prepare for a rustic experience.

Definitely get a tour of Gwaii Haanas National Park.  Supposed to be pretty spectacular, especially historically with the old village sites.

Also prepare for rain.  Lots of it, regardless of when you go.

Imperial Oil had an Electra that they used to run from YEG up to their arctic operations. I remember some of their guys having those shirts.

Turkey.

Booking Turkey for late 2021.

Worst case scenario: get covid or caught in a coup or shot down and die.

Realistic worst case: out of pocket a few thousand bucks and don’t travel.

Best case: finally get my a$$ off this Island. It has been over a year since I came back from Jordan which was shortly after Trump killed that Iranian dude. I swear the plane flew so fast from Amman to the Mediterranean sea but who could tell as they purposely turned off that little map thingy on the screen until we were near Greece.

I was glying a flingwing up there back in the day moving those folks to/fro their offshore oil rigs. Now there's a test of ones cold wx capability.

I strongly recommend the Cape Breton Highlands if you're coming out East at some point.
