Desert Hills Cactus White.  It's a Chardonnay from my favourite BC winery and is perhaps part of the reason I'm trolling BC_cheque on this fine afternoon. Sorry BC_C!

I'm working.  I can't drink for a while.  My husband voted for the enemy.

Cheers, have a glass (or more) for me....

I'm enjoying a lovely purple kush indica this evening, following a pleasant day in Regina that was highlighted by a citiva that has been poorly marketed as "green crack." Never stayed in Regina before. It's kind of nice.

Anybody tried out that that famous stuff known as Absinthe? I was shopping at the duty free in Schipol and I was peering at a package containing a 40 pounder with a picture Van Gogh when a lady asked if she could help me, and I asked is that real Absinthe? She replied " it's as real as you can get". She explained that the export product had the wormwood content scaled back quite a bit, but this stuff was as close to original as was available. So, I bought me one, and brought it home. It has flavors in it that I like, but I'll warn anybody who hasn't tried it, proceed with caution.

Can't stand absinthe.

That and rye whisky are the only two hard liquors I can't bear the taste of.

A single malt is my favorite for sure. I come by it naturally I guess. And I don't want water, ice, or any other damn thing in it.

I had a fantastic whiskey this past week called Lot 40 Single Copper Pot Still. It's Canadian made, so it should (theoretically) be available across the nation. It's a rye with a wonderful spice flavour--notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Very smooth and caramel-like finish. It's a winner for sure.

yummy!

I explored some wineries here in the Kim City/Lost Lake region recently.  I found one that I really liked.  For most of their wines they use stainless steel casks, not oak. As a result the wines don't have that oak taste and the flavor of the fruit is more prominent.

This is an Okanagan wine I came across around Christmas and loved the name so I tried it.  It's the only wine in the world that doesn't give me a headache even if I drink a lot of it and it tastes great (though I had one friend say it's too sweet for their liking).

I highly recommend.

One of my friends says that it's the oak that gives him headaches, and he can drink "unoaked" wines (stainless steel casks instead of oak casks) without any trouble. Might be worth a try.

Silver Sage is the winery I went to that had the wines I really enjoyed. https://silversagewinery.com/

The tasting room was run by a charming older lady who is the widow of one of the founders.  She had a story for every wine, each told with her delightful Romanian accent and infectious laughter.  Silver Sage wine is hard to find even here in Kim Country.  They have an ice wine that's quite popular, called "The Flame" on account of having a hot pepper in each bottle.  They make several other nice ice wines, as well as red and white wines. My favorite was their Pinot Blanc which has a slight Granny Smith apple taste, and their signature Sage Grand Reserve wine, which is infused with wild sage.  The thing with that region, there's sage everywhere. Everywhere!

"Why did you put sage in your wine?" I asked.

"Well, in Oliver in winter there is nothing to do," she explained. "You have more kids, or you put the sage in the wine. We had enough kids, so we put the sage in the wine. We poured a lot of wine in the creek before we got it right. Fish were happy."

Had the 2012 Ursa Major Syrah tonight:  https://www.deserthills.ca/product/2012-Ursa-Major-Syrah

This comes from Desert Hill near Oliver, BC.

In fact, on Black Sage road just up and over from Silver Sage.

In a few weeks will be there in person and will be filling up with the good stuff.

As for the Syrah?

Excellent. High alcohol content is to be expected for a warm climate wine, but even at 14.7% it's fine. Maybe that's because it was paired with a prosciutto/cheese/olives/fruit dinner or maybe I drink too much brandy at 40% so no longer notice.  ;)
