G. Gordon Liddy has died.... the guy from 'Old School' by Steely Dan

https://www.songfacts.com/facts/steely-dan/my-old-school

The song is at least partially inspired by an event that occurred at Bard, where both Becker and Fagen, along with their girlfriends, were arrested in a pot raid on a party that was orchestrated by an ambitious young District Attorney named G. Gordon Liddy (hence the line "Tried to warn ya about Geno and Daddy G").

Old people: "I don't get Lil Nas."

Me: "I don't get Lil Nas, but I also don't get Steely Dan."

I've filed Steely Dan alongside Woody Allen movies in the folder of things that sophisticated people think are amazing but I will never understand the appeal of.

You 'get' Steely Dan AND Woody Allen but you don't like them.

Steely Dan is crazy complicated music made to sound simple, recorded with the most perfectionism ever and delivered with wry lyrics.

Any band named after a William S. Burroughs dildo can't be all bad.

I don't get this so-called "rap music" the kids keep talking about.

Steely Dan did a brave and not entirely unsuccessful cover of the Bubber Miley claasic East St Louis Toodle-oo, so I will cut them some slack for that.
