I hesitate to ask but... I thought women weren't generally taken to visual erotica ?  Is that just a myth ?

For me, it can be ok sometimes, but most.of the time its just too distracting and unbelievable.   I am most receptive to gentler stuff, where there is seduction leading ro sex, even rough sex, as opposed to the 'rip the clothes off and go at it' type.  Especially if two women are involved.  Threesomes are ok, but more than that starts getting weird for me.

I was reading stats on this and apparently 30% of women watch **** on a regular basis, vs. around 80% of men (if you believe that, i don't think I've ever met any in the 20% category so I think it's probably higher).

But based on the official stats, I guess the generalization is true that women aren't as interested as men in visual erotica.

I don't like to label myself when it comes to sexuality, but I've always been a little 'different' so I'm sure that had some bearing in my taste for the magazines...

Ok.  20% lie about it, the joke goes.  And... maybe over to sex culture...

There was a Playgirl at one point, and another one, I forget the name, very glossy and 'artistic' aimed at women, put out by Penthouse. They didn't last, and I think I remember reading that most of their readership was actually gay men.

One of the reasons women didn't/don't show as much enthusiasm for video erotica is that most of it is/was ****. Badly filmed, with people who couldn't act, no real dialogue or script, and mostly focusing on closeups of body parts. Also, due to the social mores which STILL exist today, the sex always had to be 100% consensual. Well, you might say, of course it did! But think about it. The best you can do with that is those ridiculous videos where a postman comes to the door and is greeted by some hotty, and they flirt for ten seconds, then start tearing each other's clothes off. No seduction, because you can't have seduction without persuasion, and you can't have that without some resistance, and resistance of any kind was/is not acceptable. I don't even remember seeing one of those 'movies' where there was any hesitation on the part of either partner.  So no really 'erotic' storylines and no character development. Just bodies going at it. Not much of a turn-on once you're out of your teens.

I never saw the appeal of his tawdry book.   To me, **** is more wholesome than trying to peddle hedonism as an admirable lifestyle.  We were taught about how demeaning his publication was in Catholic school !  Patriarchy vs patriarchy.

I think some of the moralists who complain about how demeaning pornography is to women are the same types who'd prefer a Handmaid's Tale type society.  The Rick Santorums of the world, the ones who believe contraception is the worst thing that ever happened to women.

uh... if somebody has given you the impression that women aren't attracted to attractive people, you've been terribly mislead.

No - visual erotica as pointed out above.  Magazines, videos and so on.

There was, in the 80s, more of a feminist moralizing tone against pornography.  I think it's not the same today.  Taking it over to a better thread now...

He was brain dead and taken off life support. There was never any question that he was going to die. People announced his death prematurely, but once he was taken off life support it was only a matter of time.

Roy Halliday - celebrity sporting figure of note - died in a plane crash.  Toronto people are broken up on this one.  He was said to be a 'nice guy'.
