as much as she earned said "tenacious" reputation in her early sports/crime writing, she'll forever be known as just another right-wing blowhard - one given a free-lane by ConMedia! And if you think the waldo is a tad callous... even before the body is cold... here's a reminder of the vile/insensitive writing from Ms. Blatchford - as she dumps on the just-passed Jack Layton:

She worked for all four Toronto papers. You are right she wasn't just another left wing blowhard.

Both, she did her research.

Only to find stuff that suited her personal narrative, no matter how disreputable the source. Lol

Please, she was a columnist who invited controversy by her extremist right-wing views, a desirable quality to sell newspapers no doubt, but she was no oracle of truth ... or journalism.

Her drooling comments about the 'dewey cheeks' of young soldiers were downright sickening.  Lol

Christy Blatchford.

Agree with her or not, that was a real journalist.

Yes, she was far more a journalist compared to what tries to pass themselves off as journalists these days.

I thought she was average as an editorialist.  I think Coyne is much more balanced and far less ideological.  But she seems to do good work on crime/justice reporting, but i didn't follow much of it.  Gone quickly and too soon for sure though, sad.  I think it's neat to have nationally known journalists, for whatever that's worth.

Max von Sydow

A long and interesting career. I first remember him from Bergman movies they used to show on late night TV in he seventies. Seemed really weird and dark compared to what we were used to back then.

John Prine was one of my all time favorites. I got to see him live once. Great show. Most of us sung along and knew all the words.

RIP John

Hal Willner of COVID-19. I very much enjoyed his Weird Nightmare in the 1990s, which included Chuck D rapping a story written by Charles Mingus about the etymology of the word "groovy" on top of some dissonant free jazz. It was awesome.

Sir Stirling Moss gone. Maybe the best driver never to be world champion and along with Fangio, the best known driver of his era. The only non Italian to win the Mille Miglia.

I was pulled over by the VPD while whipping along Marine Drive in my Mini Cooper back in the late sixties. The cops first words were, "who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?" Fortunately all I got was a lecture. It was one of their favourite lines for speeders back then.

Two years ago today, the great Art Bell passed away. Best known for his role on Coast to Coast AM.  I’m not sure if anyone else listened to him, but he and his programs were highly entertaining.  It was always a great escape from reality to tune in.

Yes, I enjoyed his voice and the program... as fiction.

The loser George Noory is a poor replacement and tries to make conspiracies real...
