In heaven* there is a lady running and screaming “start the car! start the car,” to whisk him away....

*In my preferred version they would be in hell which is a fun place, and, according to Gaiman/Pratchet’s “Good Omens” has the fun people, but lets give a nod to standard X-ian doctrine.

:D That commercial was an instant classic, IMO.

About 46% of the stuff in my apartment is Ikea... another 22% is Jysk (which is basically Finnish off-brand Ikea.)  I will spend some time later sitting in my armchair Poang ensemble and hoist an akvavit to Ingvar.

They are still assembling his casket.

I wonder what they'll call it.

Actor Harry Anderson, known for playing Judge Harry Stone on the NBC sitcom "Night Court," was found dead in his home in Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday, police say. He was 65 years old, according to IMDB.

I used to watch Night Court.   :'(

I have a bag full of leftover nuts, bolts, washers, etc., from a few Ikea pieces if they would be of help. I think there is one of those little wrenches in there as well.
He did well. May he RIP.

Verne Troyer died today.  He was just 49 years old.  He was best known as "Mini-Me" from the Austin Powers movies. He was also immensely popular on social media, where his self-deprecating humor used his tiny stature to great comic effect.  One post featured him showing of his "new Tesla" (a toddler-sized go-cart model), terrorized by dogs taller than he is, hanging out with NBA players... a picture of Troyer measured against a stack of donuts found him to be 27 donuts tall. He seemed to take his tiny stature in stride.

But that wasn't the case. He struggled with depression. A year ago he was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning. He almost drank himself to death.  No cause of death has been released yet, but the statement from his family makes one suspect that his death was self-inflicted. Even though he made people laugh throughout his career, he was ultimately very isolated.

This one feels worse than most, because this is a person who was struggling and who never truly got to live a full life in spite of the laughter he brought to others.

Verne Troyer died today.  ... He struggled with depression.

That seems common with comedians, I wonder if anyone ever did a study to see if there is a correlation. Does the struggle to find comedic content cause depression, or is comedy a coping strategy?

I would think the 2nd.  They often hide insecurities me thinks.  Does he really qualify as a comedian though?  Or a midget in a couple of movies?

David Letterman said every comic he knew was loved too much or not enough as a kid.

Tom Wolfe.

A celebrity, yes, but an artist and cultural critic foremost.  He was one of my heroes.

She was the best thing in Superman, and ahead of her time for a strong female lead.  Her bipolar disorder hurt her career, I think, and she didn't do much else after.

It's funny, because I had just given an old Playboy magazine to a friend for his birthday - the March 1975 issue (which is his birth month and year) - and Margot Kidder was the featured bunny.

She was a troubled soul.

Also those old Playboys are kind of hilarious.
