I think Charles is underrated by most and will always have his unfortunate marriage hanging over him. He is also the longest living  successor and will be viewed from over 70 years of life when he takes the throne rather than his mother’s 26 years.

His marriage actually is where he didn't waiver from duty.  He married the person his family chose so that he can provide an heir and even though it didn't work out, he gave it a try.  He has obviously always loved Camilla all his life and said it's 'non-negotiable' that he marries her.  The cheating aside, I think the way he's loved her is very romantic.

Where he waivered from duty is in his political stances.  He left his mother to show up alone to meet Chinese president.  He has been ardent supporter of the environment and other faiths.  He was working with immigrants and impoverished kids long before meeting Diana and when it was more controversial.

The parts of his duty he waivered from I absolutely admire and it makes me like him even more.  I'm just saying he hasn't always been neutral like a good little royal which is fine by me since I support his causes.

I think he will make a fantastic king, it's too bad so many people can't see beyond his marriage.
