I never saw the appeal of his tawdry book.   To me, **** is more wholesome than trying to peddle hedonism as an admirable lifestyle.  We were taught about how demeaning his publication was in Catholic school !  Patriarchy vs patriarchy.

He managed to get sex out of the closet and make it mainstream at a time when you couldn't say the word 'pregnant' on TV. He was an active political campaigner for abortion rights, womens rights and gay rights, and against racism. His clubs gave starts to some great Black entertainers who couldn't get work in White clubs. I think it's not wrong to say everything from sex-education in classrooms to abortion rights to womens liberation were greatly boosted by him and his magazine and TV shows.
